Default Windshield Warrenty Help

Well i have an IS350 and about 2 months ago i get a crack in my windshield about 11 1/2 inches up and 18 inches to the right. Anyways I wasn't really worried about it because when i first bought the car I had bought warranty for the windshield. I call it in told them about it and they sent me someone to replace my windshield. The guy gets there and asked me "do i want an original?" i was like "huh?" and he shows me the windshield they wanted to use to replace it with. Its some brand from Europe that isn't Lexus brand. I told him to send it back and he was like OK and tells me most people do that because they like oem and the warranty company usually replace it with an oem if requested said the repair guy. So 3 days later i get a call from safe lite glass telling me that the warranty company wont pay for the OEM and that they will only cover $300 and i would have to play the difference of $700 if i wanted OEM. WTF kind of crap is that.

Cliffs:
-I get a long crack on my windshield that is in my line of sight
-I call the warranty company and they send a repairman to replace it
-They try to give me a windshield that isn't Lexus and i send it back
-they call me back to tell me they wont replace it with OEM and want to charge me an additional $700 if i want OEM

My question is should i go ahead and replace the windshield made from Europe or pay the difference for an OEM? Can Lexus void my warranty if my windshield isn't OEM and the rain sensor stops working because of it? anyone else had this problem?

i'd read your original warranty agreement first, if it does in fact state you are entitled to an oem equivalent replacement, then i guess you've lost this round.

however perhaps try contacting your insurance company, maybe you might have some kind of coverage for windshields as well? and then see which way would be more benificial to you.

personally, i wouldnt get aftermarket, in fear of bad fitment/leaking etc. but i'm sure at the same time it cant be that bad either. in any event good luck.

+1--whatever they are telling you must be stated in your warranty document.

If you try to go the route of your auto insurer, some auto insurers (may be by state law) have no deductible for glass breakage.

I would read your warranty paperwork to make sure nothing is hidden in the fine print. Sucks to hear keep us posted of what happens.

Just look at the fine print on your warrenty and worst case scenario check with your insurance. I know my insurance told me that if I ever needed a windshield replaced I would have to pay the deductible(luckily mine is only $100).
