Default Tire Pressure (Check system)

I think I messed up; I put some air on my tires because I was getting that error message. I think I am having balance issue now and I am getting the message "Check System" the Tire pressure message is gone. And I don't have the tools to measure TPS? Should I take it to the dealership or is there anyway I can balance it myself without the tool? Thanks

Adjusting the air pressure will not cause the tires to go out-of-balance.

The only tools you need to deal with TPMS is a tire pressure gauge. Set the inflation pressure when the tires are cold to 35 in front, and 37 in the rear.

If your wheels are out-of-balance (e.g. one of the glue-on weights fell off), you'll need to bring it to the dealership or a shop with the right equipment.

Oh I don't really mean like the wheels are outta balance, I was saying the TPMS is probably different that's why I am getting the Check System error. I am sure my wheels are not outta balance, its the air pressure that's causing the error message.

In my experience the check system message means there's a problem with the sensors themselves. It's happened twice to me and both times the dealer replaced the sensors. No amount of adding or taking away air pressure will change the error message.

Don't take it to the dealer just yet.

Did you just swap tires or something?

This happened to me when I swapped my winters. You should reset the tire pressure system. I think you goto the tire pressure menu thing and you hold the button. I forget what it's called but there is liek an arrow, then the button, then other arrow. Goto the tire pressure part, and hold it. This will reset it so that it knows that the pressure that's there now is the normal pressure.

refer to your manual for better instructions :P

bringing back a thread back to life after three years..(rather open this instead of making new one)

I had this check systems dialog before,(rim cracked has spare on for 2 weeks) in owner manual says take to dealership... I did that they charged me 68 bucks to reset it with there reader. Now again I had the spare on for two weeks as another rim got cracked.. and this dialog is back on..is there ANY WAY of getting this fixed/removed since I know the stealership will charge me another 68 or so bucks to get the light/dialog removed...

any fix?

This just came on as I swapped my winter tires/wheels on today. How do I clear it off? I had the dealer program both sets (summer and winter as main and 2nd) in that Tire Pressure menu. I selected main (which is my winter set) and the light is still on (CHECK SYSTEM).

Any help appreciated.

Might need to reset the system for what the "correct" pressure is... directions should be in the manual.

Thanks, watching the kids this morning will check in a bit and report back.

Also, anyone have any comments on air corroding tpms sensors. I saw this story on Goss garage on motorweek where he said use nitrogen as it won't corrode the tpms sensors? any truth to that?

Smile You guys are a Godsend...

My Check System light came on right as I pulled into the office parking lot. I was like crap there's always something! Got in, checked ClubLexus first...and voila...my issue was listed with a resolution.

My driver's side front tire was low on air and once pumped, the lights went off. (Of course I checked the others too... 35 front, 37 rear...)

Thanks for all you guys do.

The Check System Light & Warning Sign on the dashboard is one of the most annoying thing in the world! I've had my challenges with TPMS sensors. Specially switching out sensors into your new aftermarket wheels. Best resolution is to either go to a local shop like Discount tires or America Tire Co. They have multiple computer systems that program your sensors straight off the bat. No need to take off the tires, read the codes & mount balance them over again. If the tire pressure sign comes back on. Check the air pressure. Most likely if you have the pressure on all four tires to the numbers you once had the alert lights will disappear soon after.

^When you go to DT or ATC, make sure the tech knows to use the "Toyota" adapter; without it, the scanner will not be able to correctly calibrate the sensors to the 2IS. Ask me know I know!
