...and it was a beaut. Four-point whitetailed buck. Unfortunately, I killed it with my front bumper over this weekend while driving down the highway at ~75-80mph.
I'm 100% unharmed, which I consider a testament to how well this car is designed and the safety features we've got. I thought I'd share this fact with everyone, because I doubt I would have been that safe in most other cars.
My car's seen some better days though, since I know I'll be needing at least a new bumper assembly, lip, fogs, hood, radiator + rad support, 2 new headlights, at least one fender, the 2 driver airbags (main + knee), the ELR seatbelt, etc. I didn't get any pictures, since this happened around 10:30pm and I don't typically carry a camera.
Anyone else have damage estimates from similar accidents? I want to prepare in case the car is declared a loss, since I'm currently working 200 miles away from my home (which the accident happened near, thank goodness).

Yikes - hitting a deer at that speed is no joke. I've seen plenty of examples where the deer went through the front windshield and caused harm to the occupants. Good thing only the car was damaged!

Thought this thread was about hunting. I don't like hunters. Man uses guns and bows to hunt down defenseless animals for sport??? What kind of sport is that??? No competition. No life or death for the hunter, just the unknowing hunted. I don't get it. That's not proving your manhood. Killing animals for food is okay. That's why they are there....but to put a head on a mantle....just cowardly.
I tried it many years ago but thought it was cowardly. No one can convince me otherwise.
I had a similar accident but the deer went underneath the car instead of over it. My car was in the shop for about 5 weeks and there was 5k in damages. Replaced front bumper, headlights, stabilizer bars underneath, panels underneath, and a new exhaust.
