Default Estimated Repair Cost, Resonable?

This past weekend, I didn't park my car in enough and the garage door made a deep scrap on my rear bumper like a nickel/quarter sized crater plus 2 scratches.

Lexus recommended two body shops to do the repairs. I went to one this morning and the guy said he'd have to repaint the whole bumper and gfx rear lip again, which to me made since to get the paint to be consistent throughout.

Estimated cost: $1338.51 which seems quite steep...

breakdown:
parts - $30.00
body labor - 8.6 hours @ $48.00/hr
paint labor - 10.4 hours @ $48.00/hr
paint - 10.4 hours @ $35.00/hr

What do you guys think?

Thanks

sounds kind of steep too me.
they have to repaint my front bumper because the detailer at the dealer burned through the paint. they only painted the area not entire bumper. I have a black sapphire. IMO darker colors are harder to blend than lighter colors due to it fading more the lighter colors.

Check a couple more body shop. Check in the regional section and see if there are other body shops that the other CL members recommend.

looks that way. they won't be able to paint just the scrape because the damage is like a crater ... they'd have to smooth it out and then repaint.

I don't have parts costs in front of me, but I bet you could get a new bumper ordered and have it sprayed for less than that. The labor rates seem reasonable, but the time they're saying it will take to remove, repair, respray, and reinstall your bumper seem unreasonable to me.

Someone hit my rear bumper last winter and punctured it (small, about the size of a nickel). Because the bumper was pierced, it had to be replaced. I used a reputable body shop, recommended by my insurance co, and the total was $800. My color is Tungsten Pearl--I don't see how Starfire would be that much different a cost, or that the GFX lip could add that much (I don't have GFX).
