Default Newbie dude looking for IS advice

Hello all,

Currently I'm looking into purchasing a used or new IS250/350. My first thoughts are when purchasing a used IS, what to look our for. I've seen a used '06 IS350 with 25k miles, but I wasnt sure if there were any things I should be wary of when buying used. Car still has a warranty, and can be extended through dealer or my credit union.

As far as mods go, I'm looking to add tint, wheels, and lower the vehicle slightly. Whats the "average" drop for a IS? I'm looking at a Black model and debating between Silver or Black wheels. Would this be something to ask the dealer to throw into a package for selling? (Car+Wheels+Springs) Or would i be better of purchasing from ebay/online?

Do any models come with HID lights installed? Or just some years/models?

Better off getting the mods done after you have the car. Stealerships will rape you with pricing. Wheel color depends on the look your going for. My personal choice on your black car would be black.

Hids also come stock now I believe or maybe not. I know my 06 came with halogens but I upgraded to a hid fog and lowbeam kit.

Give serious consideration to buying the car from a Lexus dealer and get the Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty. It covers the car for 3 years (from your purchase date) or 100K miles (total). If you drive a lot of miles, it's a great deal. But, be aware, if you plan to sell the car before this warranty is up, it is not transferable.

Just buy a new one... a used one with 25k miles or so will be like a few thousand cheaper at the most...
Average drop for a IS with springs is slightly over an inch
If you want the dealer to install parts expect to be charged almost 2k in labor for just what you asked...
and almost all IS has HIDs it comes with the premium package and almost all IS have it

Thanks for the reply guys, Im thinking about going with the Volk GT-7 Diamond Black. Are these made in 18" and/or 19" ? Whats a good retail place to find these online? What specifics will i need to know for buying tires for these rims? I'm a little confused what offset means in relation to tires and wheels.

So I just got my new '09 IS 250 in Black. Looking to purchase some springs/coilovers. I dont really want to sacrifice my smoothness of the ride, so I was thinking about going with Tanabe Sustec Pro 5. Whats the pros and cons of coilover vs springs? Do i need to install my wheels and tires the same time as I drop the car or can i use stock ones? Im thinking about going 1.0" F, 0.8" R. Will 06-08 springs/coilovers work on an 09?

coilovers need to be rebuilt about every 30k-40k miles, but will allow you to customize the ride height and dampers

springs are cheaper, cant provide changes to the dampers nor can you customize the high

I think I'm going with the f-sports for lowering. The style of rims I like are the Sevas S-22, but I noticed they only come in 20s.

Is there anything comparable to these style (in black) that would be in 18s or 19s that would be compatible with the Tire Pressure Sensors?

Will a F-Sport drop rub with a 20' rim?

Just to confirm, will 20inch wheels rub on a 1 inch drop with F-Sport springs?

I would also make sure to obtain the HID package if you are not to technical inclined. Doing the conversion is sometimes tricky and yields moisture. The OEM HID bulbs can be swapped easily for 6k's and plus you have the auto-leveler/adaptive feature. Just food for thought.
