Misc electronics rant
I don't understand why cars, especially higher end cars like Lexus can't let you roll the *****ing windows down when the car is in accessory mode. Lexus has the sense to allow you do it if a certain window is down (then you can roll it up or down again etc) but if you just walk in the car and put it in ACC mode you can't roll them down. It's SO stupid. Does it really waste that much battery? If I want to roll them down I will anyways, but now I'll just have to put it in ON mode for no reason (priming the fuel pump etc pointlessly).
I would often do this, ie say everyone is inside and we're gonna head out, and I go to wait in the car and I don't want to idle it so I just want to put it in ACC listen to music and roll down windows, and I can't. Or what if I just want to roll the windows down (to let the car cool off) and put on the radio while I'm loading the car or something? Again I have to put it to ON. It just doesn't make sense to not allow people to roll them down.
Also, why can't I set my memory seats while I'm in ACC mode? I can adjust my mirrors, my seat, etc, but I can't set the memory on it until I put the car in ON mode. WHY? I just wasted all the battery power playing with power seats and mirror, and it won't allow me to just remember a setting, until it's in ON mode? It doesn't make sense.
And this one isn't so much Lexus' fault, I understand that manufacturers are encouraged not to let drivers mess with things while driving (ie you can't enter stuff in the NAV while moving), but it's SOO annoying that I can't set the memory seats while I'm driving. I was driving on the highway and adjusted my mirror a bit so I just wanted to save it in my memory setting, but guess what I can't. It's oh so unsafe to press 2 buttons while driving... Then I park and I forgot about it already at that point since liek 30 mins has passed and then someone drives the car and I have to re adjust my mirror again. Stupid.
This is what I hate about new cars, instead of just having a nice feature that just works whenever, they now put all these safety things on it to protect idiots that it just pisses you off and makes you want to drive your car off the nearest cliff. I hate where it's heading, all this idiot proofing just dumbifys the experience for everyone else. It also makes you go through a whole procedure to do a simple thing because of all this BS. Soon the computer will drive because it's too unsafe for you to control your car....
On another note though (this isn't part of the rant, I'm just curious) why does the steering wheel come down to you when you just put it ACC mode? You put it in ACC mode when you jsut want to listen to music, why would the steering wheel need to come down? I would think it would make sense if it only did that when it's in ON mode.
And, is there any way to turn the car off then put it in ACC mode without the steering wheel moving aroudn? I mean say I stop and want to turn the car off and let hte radio play while I wait for someone, I have to put the car in off, the steering wheel moves away, then I put it in ACC, and it comes back. Seems kind of wasteful to have it moving around all the time for no reason... is there any way to avoid it when you just want to go from on to acc? This is why I miss simpler times when you just put it in park and turned the key down one notch and you are in ACC. Now you ahve to go through a whole procedure to do something as simple as this............
