With all the Toyota family going Drive-by-wire (electronic accelerator pedal and throttle body, no more mechanical linkage) many have complained the driving experience is less personal now. We all notice the slight hesitation if you have to floor the pedal.

TOM'S introduced the LTS system. It basically helps correct the throttle input to the throttle body to give a more realistic feel. It's a simple plug and play install and increases the throttle response when engaged. It can also be turned off (auto-off on vehicle start, adjusted via EDFC-like controller) when you don't feel it's needed.

I've tried it in an IS250 and IS350. On the 350, it was quite amazing.

how does it differ from driving around in PWR mode? That mode is already kind of agressive.

 

I think the listed price was around $550. or so.

It's hard to describe it exactly, but it's only meant to be used during sporty driving. The ECO mode levels out the response so it feels more natural. I prefered the Sport 1 mode best for normal driving.

Sport 2 and 3 are reducing the overall throttle pedal distance required to arrive at WOT, so it's more for convenience when on the track.

Power mode is similar to the ECO/SP1 mode, but still tons more responsive. It manipulates the throttle response so it's great for the track.

I have a GS version at my house at the moment... but I think Flipside is going to borrow it and report =P

The IS version is on the neighbor's IS at the moment.

All this is doing is telling the system you have the pedal down further than you really do.

Can't you get exactly the same effect just pushing the pedal down further, while spending $0?

 

I agree with kurtz. Just step on the gas pedal a few more inches and you'll get the same effect.

How difficult is the install?

 

Looks pretty easy to do...Just a PnP

 

The install is just PnP. The wire harness from the pedal is unplugged. It it then plugged into the LTS piggy back. The other harness on the LTS is plugged into the pedal. Now you route the wiring for the controller to somewhere good (glove box, center console box) and you're set. The only panel you have to remove for a quicky install is the one above the pedals.

When you floor it, there is still a .5 second (give/take) latency in response and the throttle gradually opens to your requested amount. This will actually go WOT like in a vehicle with mechanical linkage between the accelerator and throttle body.

If anyone wants to go to do a few 1/4 mile runs w/ it on/off, let me know. TOM'S didn't provided any hard information on improvements, but that will likely clear it up for the most part.

 

Given all it's doing is lying to the car about how far you pushed the gas pedal, and the pedal would be floored for a 1/4 mile run, it should be impossible for it to change your 1/4 mile time.

 

So the blitz and tom are the same part and price?

 

Idk, It might? If this device is able to open the butterfly faster, then the motors responce will be that; faster. If it takes 0.5 sec for the servo motor to go WOT before, and now its truely 1 to 1 ratio then it could be a little faster in the 1/4. You would see your reaction times change, 60ft times change, & that will change the 1/4 mile times. It would truely be all about the timing. You could do the same with the stock setup but would have to compensate for the 0.5 sec delay, or how ever long it is. My major question would be the motors tuning? Is their enough time for the mechanical to respond? I.E.- the vvti, spark timing, skid ecu? What delay is needed for the proper responce from these devices.
