Default 5000 mile service

I just went over the 5000 mile mark during a long drive home from New England. The master warning light stays on continuously and the info display shows "Oil Maintenance Rqd". Is this normal? Will it be ok for me to drive additional couple of hundred miles before I get the oil changed?

it's normal. i think it's part of the 2is ECU programming... or something like that.

as far as driving it a few hundred more miles, it's your call. i've done it before, but that was ~20k - far after the engine was properly/thoroughly broken in.

then again, i don't think it would do that much damage - if any at all. maybe a technical expert can chime in on this?

This is your first oil change I am guessing. I dont think it will hurt anything, but i dont think you should go more then 500 highway miles.

I don't think it's that exact of a thing at all. The warning indicator you are seeing is reporting mileage only and has nothing to do with your actual oil condition as some cars do or how you drive. I wouldn't worry about it and just get the car services as soon as is convenient.

when the onboard computer sense 5k or close to it, it automatically chimes in that warning indicator. I know on my Camry i can get rid of it...Also check your manual...

In the USA, you need to "reset reminder light" after each oil change. Go to the 2008 manual, section 4.3, page 298, for instructions if you are tired of seeing the reminder.
