#17
just leave ya key in the car. the honest theifes wont walk up and pull the door handle. they wanna break a window and hotwire it . but the the battery removal seems like the best so far. do you go surf by yourself or with other people. maybe you can leave ya keys in somoene elses car if so

The RFID chip within the key is very strong and unless you encase it in 1/2 of lead you may have a hard time keeping it from communicating with the vehicle.
For the thread starters situation, I would remove the battery and place the key assembly inside the tool kit within the trunk. The trunk access button in the glove box can then be "locked out" and the glove box can be locked. So then you would need to do the reverse when you arrive to the vehicle.
Pop the cover of the driver's handle and use the key to access the vehicle. Open the glove box, enable the trunk open on, access the trunk, reinstall/reassemble the key and start the vehicle.
Simply throwing the key in the trunk will make the smart access system to see the key is in the trunk and reopen it.

Carchitect is the winner
Thank you everyone for their responses.
I will be going with carchitects method, as it seems like it is the most secure option.

lock the doors w/the remote THEN put the fob in the trunk and take the mechanical key.

maybe i am missing something but, couldn't you just save yourself lots of trouble by opening the trunk with the mechanical key instead?
