Default 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with AC

anyone notice any performance degradation with the air conditioner on during 0-60 or 1/4 mile times? i have def noticed improved gas mileage by turning the ac off.

I believe the ECU shuts off AC (and other parasitic systems?) under WOT.

Wide Open THROTTLE. And yeah, the car switches the output of the AC compressor off when you're under wide open throttle..it's not that retarded.

anyone have actual track times comparing with and without? i know it is a bit petty, but i am wondering whether the ac is shut off when the engine is close to red line or before that..in the sense that is there some performance loss before WOT.

well... you do know the only way you can help your mpg with the a/c off is with the windows UP, if you have the windows down and drive around... its actually worse mpg. NOT TO MENTION, all the dust that gets inside behind panels when you do modding

As soon as you put the pedal over probably about 1/2 throttle.. the a/c turns off.. Will you notice increased gas milage with the a/c off? Probably minimal.. the a/c compressor isnt that big of a drag on the engine, you're talking a couple HP at best. People who say their car is faster with the a/c off are imagining things.

Not true. The IS has a variable displacement compressor, and sheds the parasitic load of the compressor by dynamically reducing its displacement under hard acceleration. See my comments in this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=346437 as well as this web page at Denso: http://www.globaldensoproducts.com/c...ompressor.html

out of curiosity, how do you know this?

as far as gas mileage, i've probably noticed about 2-3mpg by turning the AC off whenever I run the 'Auto' system (even if it is running heat).

I accidentally left the A/C on once at the drag strip and there was absolutely no difference in my times that day. The mph was down by 1, but that could have been a number of things including headwind or the tire pressures I was playing with that day.

It was noted in the press kit back when the IS was first released, among other places.

That's not been my experience. I've seen more like 1 MPG drop in mild conditions.
