What % of the time do you guys use PWR ECT?
100%
75% 50% 25% Never |
Never tried it
I just have SNOW, no PWR :(
As a newer owner, I was thinking the same thing. Since break-in though, I've had mine set to PWR the whole time.
Maybe you should ask how many IS350 and IS250 owners use PWR mode...
Since there is a 100hp I think the IS350 owner don't need to use the PWR mode... Whereas, me an IS250 owner will need to use it when I need a faster reaction! I give it up when the use of gas increase... |
The power button works well with merging on the highway!!!
Most people will vote for Never because of gas prices hitting $4-5.
I use it all the time except in winter for the most part... so "ignorance is bliss" in terms of the MPG issue. But clearly I was filling up less all winter (roughly once every 8 or 9 days days with my commute) With it on I would say once a week. But there is definitly a difference... just be careful on the down shift when you hit the gas, for example when you are coming to a light on the break and the light changes to green and you hit the gas... you get a nice hop from the RPMs revving high...
How much of a difference is there between normal, snow, and power?
I forgot to try that out... |
there is a big difference between the modes.
snow = feels like my car is 4000 lbs normal = feels like my car is 3500 lbs and underpowered (wait a minute....) power = feels like my car is 3200 lbs |
i havent tried it yet
snow mode i believe starts your car out in second gear does it not? power keeps shifts the power band more towards 1st 2nd and third gear fro excceleration i.e. for higher loads you may want more power. My '97 4runner had this mode too... didn't notice much difference but then again a V-6 in a 2 ton SUV leaves little to be desired in terms of off the line acceleration.
I haven't used it since finding out it gives worst 1/4 mile time. Shifting gears sooner at the expense of acceleration, I'll pass.
I don't use it much anymore cause of the damn gas prices at $4 now, only rare occasions, but IS350 gives a boost anyways, so can't complain:)
As a 350 owner i never use it, i tried it for 1 full day and... i got a headache from it, when your in in traffic just kiss the pedal = whiplash... I drive around in snow mode for the smoother more lux style acceleration.
Power mode (on my IS350) holds whatever gear your in a bit longer.. depending on acceleration & declaration.. and speed..
It will also take a lower gear (if it can) for quicker acceleration when compared to regular driving mode. It basically makes your drive more spirited so to speak.. ;) Joe Z |

Really? 6 speed don't have power mode?
I dunno? Gonna have to try it!
The snow mode retards the timing wheras the ECT mode advances the timing in the AT equiped cars. I like having these modes for novelty. I guess the snow mode is not bad for really bad winter, it worked well in my gen 1 in deep snow and ice.
I used the pwr button a few times when I first bought the car. But I don't "Feel the Power" as much now. I guess I'm getting used to the speed of this car. Maybe it's time for a GT-R!
I use it more like 10% of the time.
Showing off speed/torque on the road and when I need to merge on interstate...but really that is all showoff time too :p |
I never drive with it on there's no point the awd 250 is slow
I think I've tried it twice.
I can't remember if I even have that feature on mine, it feels like eternity since I drove my car. So my answer is "never". lol

From what I understand and experience of PWR mode, it wouldn’t effect a quarter mile at all or any way. I run pwr most the time and there’s a major difference between it and standard. Mostly that when you *brake* or *slow down* it keeps the RPM's up longer. For example, you slap the brake pedal pretty hard and with pwr mode it will shift down and bring the RPM's up sooner. I would suspect if people are saying pwr affects actual dragging, the effect they are feeling has nothing to do with it being set to “pwr”. So in effect, if you were dragging a quarter with pwr on or off in which you went from 0 to 100 and then slammed the brakes to 50 and then back up to 100, pwr mode would perform better. More so, if you are on an actual track with lots of turns and fast acceleration changes, pwr mode would be keeping you in lower gears and higher rpm's like you would be with a manual. It would perform much better. |
I always thought pwr mode used up less gas than normal or snow mode...that's why I use it..
correct me if i'm wrong :uh: |

correct me if i'm wrong :uh: Ive run tests with my pwr mode on and off with full tanks of gas with no real difference in my mpg. |
do you do primarily highway driving in power mode? There is a clear difference in MPG - it is lower when you use PWR.
Anyone else have an opinion on 0-60 or 1/4 mile times with and without PWR? I would imagine it wouldn't make a difference, or PWR is faster, but definitely not slower. i haven't tested it yet. |
The only times I don't use it is in the winter time and at the dragstrip.
my car doesnt have it..... it only got snow mode..... :D
that means it's on 100%? :p |
I drive an IS250, PWR isn't in my car's vocab.
1%, I always forget it's there.
