Foglight Wireing Harness melted!
I put in a set of Luninics Krypton yellow bulbs and they were working great for the past 2 months. then one went out so i go to unplug it and the bulb connector is partially melted and the inside of where the bulb plugs into one of the metal posts is black now. What do i do to fix this? i looked in the OEM parts catalog and there is no place to buy this connector thats melted. there is a front headlight wireing harness though. Is it possible that the foglight work off of the same harness as the front headlights?
I called and left my service manager a voicemail, im not gonna let them know that i had in aftermarket bulbs. So hopefully it will be under warranty.
Is there an easy way that i can fix this without having to go to the dealer???
Thanks
Pete

That harness is a dealer only item. That is the problem with those higher than 55 watt after market bulbs. You should be able to purchase the fog harness seperatley, what was the wattage of the aftermarket bulb? Just get the vinyl for it once you replace.
If its a 9006 plug, you can get it from anywhere. Junkyard has them but I doubt you want to go there to get a plug to fix. Its an easy fix, but yeah see if the dealer will fix it before you try to fix it yourself.
Like Brain said, these aftermarket bulbs use higher wattage and so it makes the plug/wires get hot and melt.

i just fixed it!!!!!
I cut off the old one that was melted, then stripped the wires 1 inch, i had a wiring harness from a HID kit so i cut off the part i needed from it.. stripped those wires an inch. Twisted them together. plugged in the bulb and bamm it lit up. then screwed on one of those plastic wire nuts on the wires where i twisted the wires together.
I hope this last me a while... even though it was an easy fix

Be VERY careful when you repair a wiring harness......its more to it than just "twsiting wires"....This is why when mice chew through wires, they replace the ENTIRE harnes...not just patch up the damage...patching it changes the resistance and can create havoc down the line for cars with lots of computer controls....Its the same reason they junk working planes when they find damage to the wiring harness...its too expensive to rewire the entire plane and unsafe to fix it....FYI...

But like he said, use solder and heat shrink and wrap the wire that was cut.
This just reminded me of a car that came into my dealership. Left front fog light went out, burned the harness, left headlight, bumper, and fender liner. Found out that it was an aftermarket light that he used and he had to go through his insurance to repair his damage. Just becareful with what you use.
