Default Nav while driving/track list/DVD hack questions...again....

OK...I have read a bunch of the threads on the wiring hack....I guess I wanna know...is there ANY downside to the hack? Some people said the Nav got jumpy, some people didnt....I have been playing around with DVD-A discs and its almost USELESS because of the lockout while driving....you can switch songs, but different albums are stored as different chapters and to my knowledge there is no way to switch chapters while driving....just songs within that chapter....so I am now contemplating the lockout bypass hack....just wanna know that there will downsides to the hack...

the only down side in doing the hack, its that you will loose the warranty on the nav screen, and that thing is not cheap.

I too have read a lot in this forum regarding the different ways to bypass the nav lockouts. I just didn't want to cut any wires and have ordered the nav override module. Still waiting for the part to arrive, but I've heard some good things about it. The hack won't cost much $'s, but the nav module will run you about $390... But is reversible.

just hack it and cut the wires there is no downside that I know of. Also since you hav the 06 is you can just go do the info, sound, top left top bottom x2 and press override for destinations.

Awesome, it won't be for a while though (2-3 months) I'll shoot you a PM and make a run to BevMo beforehand

Thumbs up

Although it’s been discussed before, the best solution is to use voice commands to enter destinations while driving. It may have a few quirks, but you won’t loose your warranty or your life.

I am doing it not for the Nav...more for the audio system. A DVD-A disc is USELESS because you cant switch albums while you are moving....you can only go from track to track...Imagine your CD Changer not working while you are moving...so you have to listen to the SAME CD while you drive...The implementation of this is HORRIBLE. Its not this way on Infiniti, BMW, Range Rover, etc...so why does Lexus feel the need to be a nanny and govern when we can do certain things? I mean if they are REALLY that worried, make it a DEALER only thing that the owner must sign a contract waiving the liability of Lexus if we disable the lockout features....

Wow... never knew it locked out switching audio DVDs while driving... first time I've ever been happy my ML system didn't come with a DVD changer!

Well I have a similar problem with my Infiniti. Whereas the “Music Box” (a 9.3GB hard disk instead of a CD changer) is great because I can load around 300 CD’s, you can only search for, and play another album while stopped. Otherwise I have to skip all the tracks in one CD by pressing a center control button multiple times to get to the next CD in line. I admit it’s a bit annoying, but I accept it because it does a better job of keeping my eyes on the road.

You dont understand me....I can make an audio DVD with UNCOMPRESSED albums...like 15 albums on ONE disc....but once you start driving, you cant switch between albums because they are seen as chapters of a DVD. So you are stuck listening to the same album over and over again, unless you stop and put the parking brake on and switch albums....If you use regular CD's you are fine, but limited by space...I guess my solution will be the Vaistech iPod solution and a HUGE iPod...160gb Classic will do the trick!
