Why mess with something that the recording, mixing, and mastering engineer worked so hard on. I believe that they do the EQing for you to make things sound relevant to eachother... unless someone down the line had bad ears and screwed up.

Fletcher-Munson curves show that human hearing frequency response perception at different volume levels is not flat.

Music that is perfectly equalized at loud volumes will sound like it doesn't have enough bass and treble when you turn the volume down to background listening levels.
Also, you are making the assumption that the audio system is properly equalized for a flat frequency response when the tone controls are set at zero. That may or may not be a correct assumption.

Our non-ml sounds are good, im not saying their not BUT when it comes right down to it... its nothing compared to aftermarket. As for ML? $1k more, 1 more spkr and 100watt more power??? Still its nothing compared to aftermarket...

Volume usually between 15-30 depending on how fast i'm driving.
I agree with llamaboiz, the stereo in the IS is decent, but nothing to write home about. I'm still debating whether i shoul ddrop 2-3g on a custom setup... we'll see.

I listen at 45-50 and i'm NOT worried about blowing spkrs, these are STOCK spkrs remember now (non-ml spkrs handle power in the low 20watt range), the sooner they get blown, the sooner i have an excuse to change them

Still its nothing compared to aftermarket...It's a whole lot better ($940 for 100 more watts) than I could have gotten spending the same $940 to upgrade the factory system- especially with how difficult replacing the Lexus head unit is.
My previous vehicle had a multi-thousand-dollar system in it, all alpine interior stuff, and all JL Audio for the subs... and the ML system sounds about 95% as good as that one for a whole lot less cost.
