Hey guys. As you guys may have seen in my "Finally got our IS..." thread, I am planning to tint the windows. I have read through some of the threads discussing tint, but no one has mentioned what the visibility is like through the rear windshield. We used to own a station wagon with a large rear windshield, and own an SUV which has a large rear windshield as well. So, the smaller rear windshield that the IS has, has been a bit of an adjustment, since we haven't driven a "car" in quite some time. Now when it comes to tinting, we were thinking about a 20% for rear windshield & rear passenger tint, and 35% for the drivers windows. Keep in mind that the interior of my car is black. With that said, how difficult is it to see out the back...especially at night? Anyone have any visibility problems?

I have 15% all around, no problems here!

 

You should be ok with that tint grade. I had 5% on the back window and 50% side windows in my previous car. I had a black interior as well, most people from outside will not be able to see you. Only problem that i had was backing up in the dark. Since your tint is lighter you are good.

 

With 15% on the back, I don't have any problems backing up. I have 35% on the sides because I wanted that uniform look.

 

i have 20% on the back and 35% on the sides, at night its like your in an airplane cockpit... its cool but it can get difficult to see out the back window if there are no lights behind you.

 

So far sounds good. No one has ever bumped into something because of the rear window tint have they?

 

z4frosik...do you mind posting a few pics of your setup on this thread since that is what I am looking at? I may have seen it before, but just for a refresher .

Never any issues. Must be the Formula One.

 

I’m sorry. I don’t believe any of your stories that you can see out of the back windshield at night with no problem having 10-20% tint. Other than some dim headlights on the road, the only time you’ll know something is behind you when backing up is when you hit it. I just hope it’s not a child or something horrific like that.

 

I have 35% tint in the back and the back passengers. No problems at all. I have a black interior too, and i live in vancouver, and its dark most of the time here. although, in a dark alley with no lights, seeing out the back can be difficult..but then i use the mirrors.

anyone actually see themselves using our nice large mirrors for backing up a lot? I barely look out the back :P

 

I have 20% on the sides and back and I only have problems seeing out of the windows is when there is no light outside. In the city and places with lights I have no problems

 

In my truck, I have 20% over the stock 20%. So it's basically 5%. Backing up sucks. But I have my side mirrors and my sensors so if it beeps I stop. I also have 20% on the side windows and I like it. Dark sometimes but it just takes some getting used to.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. It seems that at night it does get quite difficult to see out of the back. But the side mirrors seem feasible enough to back up...although not my favorite option. Will just try to do the least amount of backing up in the dark I guess lol.

 

just dont change ur reverse tail lights to LED.. then u really cant see anything.
