Default I got rear ended ...

... and sustained no real damage to my rear bumper! i was making a right turn when the guy just runs into my back bumper. thankfully our cars are made like tanks. there was no shifting of the bumper and also no dents or cracks. there is only a few lines that I hope to get out with a good buffering.

quick question, what are the two side reflectors on the rear bumper for? i was trying to make sure everything was functioning correctly.

First and foremost, I'm happy to hear that no significant damage was done. When you said that "a guy runs into my back bumper," was he a pedestrian or in a vehicle?

Second, the two reflectors are just that: reflectors. You can cover them up if you want; some people put smoke overlays for a darker look. They are not necessary, other than helping with visual attention (which didn't help in your case).

Good luck in getting it fixed. It could have been worse...

Glad to hear it was minimal. It seems like every IS owner is being rear ended.

Also, our cars sustain damage well, and the cabin is amazingly safe. I know, cause I got rear ended at almost 30mph.

BUT, do check the bumper beam on the inside, It deforms; even from light taps.

Lucky guy. Reminds me of when I ran into a minivan at 55 mph with my focus and the only damage was to my fog lights!

Sorry to hear about your accident. Most important thing is that you escaped with no harm. The bright side is, it's just a car and it is always repairable or even replaceable.

it was a vehicle and not a pedestrian. he said that it must've been no more than "5lbs of pressure". whatever that means ...

so the two reflective things on the bumper arent supposed to light up or anything? thanks!

Not at all.

They're not lights, but reflectors only (well, at least for U.S. cars, they're only reflectors...).

Sorry to hear about the accident. At least you're ok and the damage wasn't too bad.

you might wanna take off the bumper and see if there is any damage behind it. i got rear ended in stop n go traffic on the fwy... probably going like 5mph or so. from the outside it didn't look too bad... paint scuffed up but bumper not cracked, however, the beam and the foam or whatever had to be replaced behind the bumper and the total bill came out to like 900ish?

ultimax, was the bumper out of line? meaning was it visually out of place?

similar thing happened to me when i got rear ended. only bumper skin damage and i got hit pretty good while i was at a light. the bumper skin could have been repaired and repainted but i opted for a new bumper skin. no damage under the skin to the foam nor bumper beam.
