Uh oh... Please Help...
I was driving my car today, and at a light I bumped it down into 1st gear manual mode and hit extreme redline in 1st gear *forgot to shift, as I'm used it shifting for you if you accidentally forget in other auto cars"... Am I in trouble? Is there a fuel cutoff, or rev limiter even up that high to prevent engine damage? I'm WORRIED.
I wish I had my 6spd S6 back.

the IS has so many safety features that i don't think anything serious could have happened to your car. the IS is about as far from a raw sports car as you can go so it's always thinking for the driver. i used sports mode one time, but it wasn't as efficient as putting it in "D" so i don't use it anymore.

Coming from a 6sp you should know that the only real way to over-rev is to go from 6 to 2 or similar misshift. This bypasses the rev limiter and over-revs which can cause lots of problems for your entire drivetrain.
This just isn't possible with a slushbox.

Ha Ha slushbox!!! LOL thats a funny term!

As you can see, you have to be going over 109 mph for the transmission to not let you into 4th gear. It's almost fail-safe.
Oh, and to the OP - the throttle is electronically limited at 6750 RPM.

Heheee, even with a stick like my long old del Sol VTEC, the red line cuts the engine (8200 RPM). That B16a wound up very fast and needed to stay high for power and I was 24 which pretty much meant I was bouncing off it 50 times a day for the entire 40000 miles I had it. I've bounced off the rev limiter on my IS350. I could probably bounce off it just as much and not have any problems at all.

Which begs the question, what happens if you flip the shift lever from "Drive" to sport mode when traveling 110 or faster? And no, I don't recommend anyone here be foolish enough to try it.
