Default Did you pay for settings customization?

Well, topic title says it I need to change custom settings on my new IS350 and the dealer told me that it takes an hour and I need an appointment for that. Something tells me it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes and they just want me to pay one hour's work.

So here's my question - did you pay dealer for changing custom settings in your car?

You get one freebie in the first year after you get the car. After that you must pay.

^ +1 for what DeviousOne said.

they forgot/botched my requested personalized settings the first time around, and i gave them hell when they called for the service dept. survey. after i was done, they offered to do it for free the second time around.

Appointment request is reasonable so they can slot it into their schedule. You are right, once they start it is only a five to ten minute affair to actually change the settings. The first one is free (within one year of delivery), just like the first oil change is on the house. Make sure they understand that before you leave your car. I'm taking mine in next week, and I will be sure that they agree that there is no charge for this. That will prevent any nasty surprises when you pick up your vehicle.

Lexus.com is sometimes your friend:

http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/IS_LPS.pdf

From the web site: "Lexus Personalized Settings: Lexus vehicles include a variety of electronic features that can be personalized to your preferences. For example, doors can be programmed to remain locked when you shift into "Park." Programming of these preferences can only be performed at an authorized Lexus Dealership. The service is free at the time of delivery or within 12 months of the vehicle's in-service date."

There is also a more comprehensive list that has all the options, some of which are pretty esoteric, but I don't seem to have it at hand. Someone else?

Nope, absolutely not! Now unless you are talking about going in for a second change, the first one should be free.

that other list is a service manual list. I used that to reference the other changes...like the duration of headlights after you walk away, disabling the auto rewipe with you use the washer fluid, other time durations...etc.

I just found the things i needed and and wrote it on the LPS sheet and the Tech knew what i was talking about and did it. He even programmed my second TPMS set too.

There is a comprehensive list here. It's in PDF, so you can download it, mark it up, and give it to the SA. You can also compare what they did with what you requested.

How much is it for the second (and future) customizations? I'm looking into a used 06 IS350 and would probably have to customize it for myself.
