Drove the IS350 from Denver to Phoenix last week to attend the Bondurant School of High performance driving.

The school was a blast. So was driving the IS350.
12 hours in the saddle, was very comfy.
car was rock solid the whole drive @ 90-95 the whole time.

P.S. Sunshade is great for hiding radar detector from those behind you who want you to be there shield.

 

How many miles roung trip?

 

Cool. The wife and I are thinking of taking a trip from SoCal to NorCal in the fall and at first I said 'Let's take the Accord' Afterall it takes 87 and why put the miles on my fancy new Lexus...Then I was thinking..well damm it sure would be a good time to really use the nav, plus I bought this car to drive it right? :-)

Two weeks ago I took the IS, and the missus, to Santa Fe, NM. 670 miles each way. Very pleasant trip, the Navigation got us to the hotel in Old Town Santa Fe with no problem, and anyone who has been there knows it is a lot of narrow one way streets. Posted speed limits ranged from 80 mph on I-10 in West Texas, to 65 mph in NM. Average fuel economy based on actual fuel purchased was 28.2 mpg. Very happy with the performance.....quiet ride, comfortable and great fuel economy.

Point that car north and GO.

I cant wait for my road trip to start. Even though it happens next summer (so long!!!!) from NY to my buddys condo or beach house in Florida. As far as the cars, my IS350, my friends 350Z and another friends Honda Odessey.

 

Since May 24th of this year, I've been from Sacramento, CA to Atlanta, GA (2563 miles), round trip from Atlanta, GA to Brooklyn, NY (873 miles), and round trip from Atlanta, GA to Cedar Rapids, IA (903 miles) in the IS350. It gets excellent mileage, cruises at 80 - 85 with ease, and remains comfortable even after 25 hours straight driving. This car has legs, and is a joy to drive over the road. BTW, the outbound leg from ATL to Brooklyn was with a full complement of passengers - 5 people - and no one complained about the back seat being small.

lobuxracer, I'm also curious what kind of gas mileage did you obtain?
Sometimes I think the back seat gets alot of bad rap, yeah compared to a larger luxury car it is smaller but I re-tested it again a week or so ago and I sat back there during part of the outing behind the pass who had their seat adjusted and I had enough leg room, with the armrest down it was comfortable for me.

 

Here's the trip in detail on the spreadsheet I used to track time, mileage, and cost. There was some driving around I did in Texas that isn't on this chart so the actual mileage at the end was a little more.

 

Wow, a spreadsheet, that's cool stuff. That's impressive gas mileage considering your avg speed was about 70. thanks for uploading.

 

The deceptive thing about the spreadsheet is I went through a large number of construction zones with 45 - 55 mph speed limits and police with radar (thanks V1!) so my actual driving speed was typically about 80, with stints lasting 10 - 25 minutes at 45 - 55 mph. You can see the averages, but I guarantee, there is a lot of time near 80 mph in all of those runs.

BTW - I-40 is torn up all over the place...AMHIK.

 

I've done 3 (4 maybe) round trips from San Francisco to LA. Typically a non-stop or short-stop run, and I ended up adjusting the lumbar support a few times. I preferred my PT Cruiser for long drives, actually, the seats were so flat I could change seating positions easily and find a comfy spot. Side bolsters are not so conducive to that.

Thankfully, I didn't have to drive it to Texas, where I am now. But it showed up with bugs all over the rear end, gave the guys at the car wash a good laugh wondering if I was running around the highways in reverse.

 

I am surprised you had runs where your actual MPG was lower than the MPG indicated. I've never seen that in my 15 fillups thus far. Usually my actual is at least .5 more than display... That last run is especially problematic if you are down to your last gallon and the display is optimistic by 1.7MPG. That's over 20 miles short on the range you'd think you'd have...
