Well, after giving my dealer a glowing review after my 5k service, I had the 10k service today and had them take a look at a few rattles as well as the infamous gap on the left side of the center stack. The results:
1. Left air vent was rattling. Still rattling, except it's now misaligned with silicone goop everywhere. Was told that that's the way it went back together, and that ordering a new one probably wouldn't help.
2. Gap on left of center stack is gone now, and replaced with random gaps on top of stack, and to the right. Center vents are now uneven and not aligned. Dealer states that Lexus had them fabricate a new bracket for the radio (WTF??). This was a VERY BADLY screwed up job, and I called them on it. I was told that all IS's on the lot are equally bad. I explained that the fix I had seen involved moving the dash around, not fabricating brackets.
BONUS PRIZE: On my way home the vents started SPEWING SMOKE. All four vents, black plastic smelling smoke. I drove it back, and it stopped doing it. I was told that this was caused by putting my vent on outside air when it's hot outside. It seems to have stopped completely, but I think we all know that black smoke does not equal condensation in the air coming out. Something is obviously wrong with my car. I was told to bring it back when the shop foreman returns from vacation.
I give up. I'm going out to clean up silicone goop.
This happened at JM Lexus. I'm going to give them a chance to make this right when the one guy that apparently knows how to fix things returns. This is the largest Lexus dealer in the world...I'm a bit disappointed that they were so dismissive of flaws in their expensive luxury vehicles.
In fairness, my service writer was great. VERY nice guy, wanted to do the right thing, and never lost his patience while I was cursing the world (and him). I hope he contacts me when the Lexus Whisperer gets back into town, because right now I'm ready to disappear this car.
You have to understand that this car has 4,800 miles, is one year old, and I absolutely baby it. It was PERFECT when I brought it in today, and I mean that...not as much as a bug splat on it. I have high standards, and that's why I bought a Lexus. I hope they don't prove me wrong.
damm i am srry for you bro...i know how u feel.. i baby my car too and i want the best service and quality for the car. HOpe they fix everything for you
Sorry to hear of your experience at JM. But I always take a critical view of taking the car in for nebulous things like 'squeaks, rattles and misalignment gaps'. These issues are very difficult to quantify and fix. Unless I had horrendous gaps in the center stack, or a squeak I just could not live with, I would not have the service goons take things apart. There is too much chance for a **** up. Hope you can get things buttoned back up to your satisfaction. Don't know why they would use any type of silicon stuff to try to stop rattles or fix gaps. That's not normal procedure, afaik.
The black stuff in your a/c could well be just dust that was dislodged during service. If you bring in outside air it often condenses, and if mixed with the dust, could produce what looks like black smoke. Keep an eye on it. In a very humid environment, like FL or TX, you have to leave your system on recirculation mode, otherwise you'll eventually freeze up the coil due to the excess moisture. You'll suddendly find yourself with no air flow until you turn the system off and let it melt.
"I was told to bring it back when the shop foreman returns from vacation"
Are they serious? Is he the only rocket scientist that can fix this problem? Sorry, but that is just wrong. Isn’t JM Lexus like one of the biggest dealerships in the state of Florida?

Apparently they have two shop foremen, and the one with more experience (that might know how to repair my car) is on vacation for 10 days. They're the biggest Lexus dealer by volume on the planet. I explained other fixes that I had seen on this site (adjusting dash alignment, etc.), but they hadn't heard of any of that. I was most disappointed when they starting dismissing the poor fit and finish of the car, stating that they're all that way. That really surprised me. I was also told repeatedly that IS's will rattle because they're "sports cars".
I just hope the smoke was a one time event. They kept suggesting that it was just condensation in the air from using fresh air rather than recirc, but my cabin was filled with black smoke and I had to drive back to the dealer with my window down and people staring at the show. I would say something went wrong...maybe they dropped something down in the engine and it was burning.
The service guy could only guess that I possibly picked up a plastic bag on my exhaust that was melting on the way home, but there was no evidence of anything in the engine or underneath the car.

That's a load. I just came out of an 06 330, thing was built like a tank. Never a squeak or rattle out of it, and I drove it like I stole it. Lots of other things broke, but it always felt rock solid.
If my new Lexus develops any of the problems/squeaks that you mention I will be raising hell with the dealer. The "all IS' do that" argument is a terrible one; it just makes the customer think that all were built cheaply, which I don't think is the case.
In any event, good luck getting this sorted out, please keep us posted.
Hopefully they resolve your issue. That is the dealership I take my car too as well. Maybe you should IM Shannon and she could help you out. There's a couple of people from JM on these boards.
