Yes, it sure felt a bit crazy to do this on my 1 month old car!
But I took my time to start the hole with a punch and step up the bits, surely more care was taken than paying a dealer or shop, because it's my own car! In the end is good result.

Hopefully this gives other owners some information, when they search about drilling vs taping they can decide for themselves. The trunk metal is actually not that thick
