I have a new 250 with 400 miles on it now. It seems to idle noisy. I can't hear it inside but outside it seems pretty noisy. How loud is everyone else's? I was just wondering if this was normal. For a 41,000 dollar car, I thought it should quiet.

 

yeah but those 350s probably are base.. whereas his 250 is fully loaded.. also probably the AWD.

 

Can you describe any of the sounds?

 

The ticking noise is caused by the direct fuel injectors, which operate at a much higher pressure than the port injectors in most other cars. Nothing to be concerned about.

I noticed that you guys were discussing the ticking noise coming from your motors. I'm pretty sure that Lexus is aware of it because I called them on it when I was at 1,000 miles with my 07' 350 and the master tech told me it was normal, but then again he also told me that a couple rentals have been doing it too. I found that kind of weird, but I'm just going to drive it like I stole it and hopefully if there is something wrong, it will break before my warranty is up! HAHA!

It almost sounds like an old Mercedes Diesel or maybe it even compares to the sound of the lifters. I don't know too much about Fuel Injected cars but hopefully nothing is wrong.

 

Both that old Mercedes diesel and your new IS have high pressure direct injection. Nothing is wrong, there are dozens of threads asking about this noise since the 2IS was released.

 

The "diesel" noise is infact normal... It's unfortunate that Lexus didn't go to greater lengths to minimize the ticking.

 

It stickered for 41,000. I didn't pay that for it. I was just stating that for that kind of money I was expecting a quiet idle. When we test drove the TL-S you could barely hear it.
