Possible transmission problem?
I've been thinking about this all morning and I'm glad that I rememer it so I can post on here. This was inspired from one of the sport shift threads.
Now a lot of people say that the IS downshifts by itself. Well, I was playing with it this morning and it doesn't downshift. Even at a complete stop, it still says that I'm in 3rd gear in sport mode. Do you think something is wrong with my transmission?

That part of the display works well. I was kind of wondering if it was normal for the other little display (the one that shows just the number when in Sport mode) remains the same when I slow down. I'm just glad everything's working as it should be.
I've only had one warranty work done on it already and I was afraid another one might creep up again with that transmission thought. Man, the CD player broke down. I had a replacement put in already. It was Pioneer brand player they reinstalled.

It's designed that way on purpose so you can quickly see what gear you put it in. It would be redundant, and less useful, if both displays showed the same thing.
It makes sense when you put it that way. Sometime in heavy traffic, I hate the transmission to shift unnecessarily. So I would put it in 1st or 2nd gear, but at the same time, I like to see what the actual gears the transmission is shifted too. Then, I can shift accordingly.
One thing though: I'm too chicken to race the motor. I rarely go above 4-5,000 RPM. Do you think I'm being too careful or can the motor take it pretty well at around those RPM range on a consistent basis without premature breakdown in the long run? I know it can handle up to the 6600RPM redline (I think that's how it goes up to), but I plan to keep this car for a long time and don't want to put too much wear and tear on it. I was going to make another thread on this, but I figure I'll just add on to what I have in here.......

The sport shift controls (and the indicator displays) the maximum gear that the transmission can automatically select.
That's one feature I haven't really tried yet. I think I've done it a few times with a loaner RX350, but I didn't feel anything
. What does it do? More power? (Judging from the name of it).

The whole Sport Shift deal with the paddles or shift lever is worthless, imo. It's only there as a marketing gimmick. And it just doesn't work. Just leave the transmission in regular mode and use Power Mode if you must.
Personally, I like how the sport shift mode works. I use it to hold the gear longer when I'm accelerating from a stop. Then I shift it all the way to 6th when I'm cruising so that the transmission will do what it needs to do to save gas.
