Default 06 IS350 cold start grinding noise

Since a few weeks ago, my 06 IS350 has been making a loud grinding noise when first starting after it has been parked overnight or longer. if I turn off the car and start it again, the grinding noise isn't there. But when I park it after coming home from work and start it again the following morning, it grinds once again.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Any idea what it could be?

My first guess would be a leaky check valve in your oil filter. Did you get your oil changed from some place other than lexus?

I have had my oil changed at my local Lexus dealership only, no other service work done so far. The vehicle only has 11000 miles on it.

The startup noise you are talking about, would you describe it as a grinding noise? Does it go away after the first start, only to come back when starting after the car has been parked for a while?

I've had the same issue as have others. Search for posts by me and you'll find another thread with some information. I'm curious to know what they replaced. Update us with more. When I took mine into Lexus they said they could only reproduce the noise once and that they couldn't do anything about it. I think I'll take it in again. Please let us know if the replacement parts fix the issue.

yes, it sounds like some metal are chatting. It won't does it when the engine is warm, only when it cold. It doesn't do it all the time either, just most of the time.

Lexus will fix my issue even if it requires an engine replacement. I only keep my cars for a couple of years. I don't think I'll be able to get what I can if the prospective buyer starts it up with the nice little grind.

I'd steer away from my car if I were the prospective buyer.

x2. If they ordered those specific parts for you, they must have some idea of whats making the noise.

Don't know if you're talking to me but I'm using 5w30. Didn't know that Lexus issued the tsb to use 5w20.

I bought a case of the 20 weight for my next oil change but it doesn't look like it'll make much of a difference because tt said he's using 20 and still has the issue.

I got a case of dino Pennzoil. I change my oil more frequently than the suggested intervals so the syn doesn't make sense for me personally.
