Default Temperature

Ive been wondering about this for a while ever since i read threads on cold engines.
Im wondering, the tach only shows the water temperature right?
Then how do we know when the engine's oil temperature has reached the operating temperature so we can really step on the accelerator?

We don't. There is no oil temperature sensor for the engine. There is one for the transmission, but not the engine. The ECM does not look at oil temperature, only water temperature. IMHO, that is one of the significant deficiencies in TCCS. I have not seen this feature on any Toyota I have worked on.

Anyone care to guess what our oil temperature would be when normally driving in the summer? Since I have seen 300F claims on the 335i it got me wondering about our engine.
