Default Clear bra....

I have an appointment with aerotect this saturday to get my clear bra installed. I was thinking of getting my whole hood done but, the price is scary. They are asking $495 for partial hood, full bumper, fenders and side view mirrors, they want $770 for full hood, full bumper, fenders and side view mirrors . Do you guys think its worth the $275 just to do the whole hood. The color of my IS is smokey granite.

Seems like a good price. I've been quoted $995 for a clear bra for partial hood, full bumper, headlights, fog lights, fenders and mirrors ... this shop near Baltimore does work for Team Lexus ... so, I'm hoping they'd do a good job for that kind of cash.

When I asked him about getting my full hood done, this is what my guy said: "depending on the color of the car, it may not look like you think it will. On a silver yes it would look good, but on the darker colors, burgundy, blue or black you would notice it as it would have some texture, as where the paint is smooth. We do do it for people but I really don't recommend it."

Good luck with your decision ...

I remember paying about $600 for the "extended" (30" I think) hood and the rest of course. My installer didn't have the full hood material at that time but estimated an extra $200-300 for the full hood. So IMO $770 is a very good price. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for the full hood especially at that price.

Sounds about right. Tell us how it comes out. I may want to get mine done.

I only had the front bumper done because I did not like the idea of having that line where the film ends going across the hood and fenders. But after seeing a bunch of rock chips on my hood, I'd probably go w/ the full hood. However, acbrisker brings up a good point about the film having a different texture than nicely detailed paint.
I'd have aerotect put on everything but the hood, and take a look at the "texture" of the film and just go from there. Tough call.

Not a fan of the clear bras, but your quote seems about right. Get some pics up afterwards, lets see how it looks!

How's your front end holding up? Have you noticed any rock chips?

Well I just recently purchased my car, so I cant really say. As of right now there are no chips...but thats expected haha.

Previously I had a Black 2002 A4 and it maybe had 1 tiny tiny rock chip in there if there was one.

$600 for my full 30" package from 3M. I need them to come out and do the bumper again as I have some new bubbles. 27k miles on the car and bra and I have 3 stone chips under the bra that didn't penetrate, and one rock chip that went through the bra... The front of my black car would be peppered silver if not for the bra, but I'm not happy about the chips under the bra.
Doing the whole hood would make it easier when waxing, but I haven't noticed any chips that high up and wouldn't pay extra for it.

yea i already have 1 chip on front hood sucks ......not sure if i should invest in a bra or just repaint later on in the future....

so does the guy warranty if rocks penetrate the bra? will he cover to fix damage?

Does anyone have pics of a full hood bra/fenders/bumper?
Ive seen bra on half of a hood....not sure if i really like that line going across

I take it as...it looks cleaner without the bra. You can cover it up for $600 but you lose the look IMO. Why protect the front when it compromises the look?

Go bra-less. Save the $600 now. Enjoy the look of your car. Once you get enough rock chips, replace the hood for either OEM or Carbon Fiber for MAYBE a couple hundred bucks more.

not to mention 3-5 years from now the bra might discolor, making it look like a bad paint job.
