Ok, let's look at some facts and see which is quieter. Here is a test of the 330i and IS350. Same day, same track. http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...1/pageNumber=6 Which is quieter under full acceleration and at crusing speeds?
I don't base my decisions of magazines... I base my decisions by driving a car for an entire day... Which is what I did with the 335i, and with the IS350... The IS350 is a quieter car, MUCH quieter... No magazine will change my mind when I have first-hand experience...

you are right that according to the numbers, the 3 is more quiet than the IS. Noise meter only measures only the noise level. It does not take into consideration of other factors that affect the driver hearing. The ride on the 3 is more firm than the IS so every little bumps the car absorbs from the pavement radiates and transfers thru the driver body which amplifies the noise in the driver ears. I drove the IS and 3 back to back and I felt the IS was more quiet.

personaly i think it's kinda funny that BMW went with a turbo ... they've only done it once and it was decades ago (The new 330 was only out for 10 months before they got replaced).... do you think they were worried that their cars weren't the ultimate driving machine so they had to do some last minute twin turbo design in order to beat the IS... look at insider... people like him are very self conscious about their cars and have low self esteem... they need to come to this forum and post things up just so that they can sleep better at night~~ Bottom line... 335 is a great car, but so is the IS.
I am sure a rematch is coming with the new G35 as well having debuted.
Also we counted up the points and the IS 350 did not lose by 1 point, the two cars actually tied.
They didn't tie--the C&D editors clarified this the following month. They show the rounded numbers (18, 19, 20, etc), but actually tally the score by a more precise scoring system (17.91, 18.87, 20.22, etc),
It's also worth noting that the 328i and the 335i are new this year, and C&D seems to think very highly of them. You may recall that the 328i just beat out the '07 G35. Unfortunately, Lexus' small changes to the IS are heavily outweighed by Infiniti and BMW's improvements.
It's probably safe to assume the 335i widened it's lead over the IS350.

You must have very special hearing abilities. Be sure to donate your body to science for further research when you die.

How do you get dealers to let you take a car you're considering for an all day test drive?
The BMW is NOT a quieter car... It is noisy as hell and rides VERY rough... I spent an entire day in a 335... It's pointless to buy that car... If you are going to get such a stiff handling car because you want performance, you should get the new 2008 M3... That's my plan... A regular 3-series is a lame car IMHO... Everyone has them and they are the lowest level, cheapest BMW... bleh!!!
The M3 though, man that car rocks... And the 2008 is going to be so damn sweet!!!
hey, no offense, but dont we have the cheapest lexus?
it would be a drivers race when it comes down to tracking a car between the 335i and is350. i chose the is350 because i only track my car once a year (gingermans). thus, i chose a car id like to drive 99.9% of the time. on the other hand, i would never want to drive a BMW at its limits for 20 minutes straight for 5 cycles unless i had a tow company on speed dial.
Feb issue of one of the car magazines (forgot which one) compared the TL, G3X and IS350. The IS came up #1 overall followed by the G3X. So IS owners rest assure that we're up there. vs 335? Maybe. Depending on what we're comparing. ie Reliability VS Performance VS overall satisfaction?

I just ask... They usually have a demo car that has high miles just for this purpose... I believe most dealerships have at least one model of each car that is for test drives, loaner, whatever... You probably won't find that with an M5 or M6, but for a common car like an IS, or 3-series, it shouldn't be a problem...
I am trading in my Jaguar this year and I took an E550 out for an entire weekend actually from my local MB dealer... Picked it up Friday afternoon and turned it in Sunday evening... It had like 150 miles on it when they gave it to me... I only put on about oh, another 100 miles or so... Nice car btw! I just may get one of those to replace the S-Type...
