Irritating Noise With Rear Windows Down
hey does everyone with an 2IS have an irrating noise with only your rear windows down that cuts out like all the noise and makes an irritating vibrating noise in your head then starts to hurt your eardrums kinda if you leave the rear windows down too long while your on the highway or something...

I have heard this in MANY cars, i believe this noise is created by the vent flaps (located inside the door sills in most cars). when you are on the freeway you are throwing a postitive air pressure into the car, causing all of the vent flaps to, well flap... once they start flapping at some form of resonant frequency, it starts hurting your ears and gets really irritating just like you said.
with my experiences the noise seems more prevelant in newer hatchback vehicles (my roomate's last car, a 2005 kia spectra 5), i haven't heard it in my lexus yet though.

this is caused by the pressure in the car. i think this is more common if you have only the back windows open and nothing else. if you vent the front windows and try this again it should eliminate what you are talking about. i have experinced this in other cars before when only the rear windows are down. hope that helps out.
The car is very loud with the rear windows down. It's funny -- it sucks air in instead of letting air circulate. If you try to throw something out of the car, the wind will suck it right back into the cabin.
Try this: don't recirculate the cabin air -- use the fresh cycle. Also, tilt the sunroof up. These two things will help decrease the wind noise...

That's one thing I don't like about the 2IS - driving with the driver's window down is very uncomfortable due to air rushing directly against the side of my head. My Solara was much better in that regard. So, I simply leave it up, and vent with the sunroof. Coupes are better for window-down driving, I think.
Pretty much every 4 door car I've been in does the same thing. I know that with the IS350 it starts around 35mph and it's about the same for my gf's jetta. Definitely does not feel good on the ear drums. Like others have said, crack a front window or open the sunroof.
