Default Tire rotation

I just notice that my rear wheels are much bigger than the front ones. Ok, on standard automobiles, you have to get them rotated every 6,000-9,000 miles or every other oil change.

How in the hell do you rotate the tires on our car? Or is it no longer necessary? If not necessary, won't the tires wear out quicker? Perhaps being RWD, it doesn't wear as faster as FWD cars.

The only way to rotate our tires is to actually remove them from the rims ( not piratical) & and from left to right not front to back. So to some up the point your tires might last you as long as your not that aggressive of a driver 25000 miles good luck.

We have the worst combination for tires rotation. It's different sized front/rear (which only leaves us with the choice of rotating between left/right sides only) and then we have directional tires (which only permits front/rear rotation)

So that means we cannot rotate our tires, unless you unmount them off the rims and swap left/right.

The only thing you can do is that when it's time to replace your tires, get asymetrical tires next time so at least you can rotat between left/right sides.

For all practical purposes don't even think about rotating them. Cars hold their alignments far better now than they did 20 or 30 years ago. Seems like people here are getting 15,000 to 20,000 + on their original tires, so it doesn't seem to be that big of deal.

SO it looks like we'll be getting new tires sooner than others. I was surprised at first and didn't realize that we had different size tires. I thought they were all the same size wheels, lol until I caught myself staring at my beautiful rims. I was thinking to myself, "hmmm this doesn't look right". I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first but realize after reading the sidewall info that indeed, they were different.

Now what is the point to having bigger tires in the back and smaller tires in the front? For show?

Because our cars are RWD so having wider tires helps with traction off the line.

Have you ever noticed how wide the rear tires are on a Dodge Viper?? They are huge so the 500+hp monster under the hood can have traction.

Oh, I see. Mainly better traction which may result in better handling.

Since you didn't know about this, its not too important. So don't worry about it.

If you really want to rotate your wheels, there are dealers out there that will do it (regardless of whether you want them to). We read about them occasionally on this board.

Staggered sizes are also a big aerodynamic advantage. The Cd on the car would be much worse with 255's in front. However, the car would handle much better under track conditions, especially as heavy as it is. Remember the Team Lexus ISx50 based cars with nice wide tires on all four corners?

I'm up to 26000 miles and my rear tyres are just at the point where I need to change them. The fronts should last another couple or three thousand miles. I'm quite pleased they've lasted that long.

Woo, aerodynamics. Makes the car sound fast. I'll take it.

That sounds about right when I got my tires changed on my Corolla. I had these cheap soft Goodyear Integrity's and whoa, they went bald in almost no time. I drive so much, it's not even funny. Here's another question:

Do you guys get your tires changed at the dealership or go to a Goodyear store (or equivalent)?

You're better off buying tires at a tire specialty store. The dealer's prices are usually not very competitive because they cannot buy and sell as many tires as a specialty store can. You'll also get a better selection at a tire store.

BTW, the AWD IS does not have staggered tires.... its got the same size all the way around. Makes life a lot simpler.

Hey TRDCorolla -- have you initialized your tire pressure sensors yet? If not, you better do it quick or you'll get error codes.
