Default Allocation...

When a dealer allocates a car, how far away are they generally willing to look? Let's say my exact car is on a dealer lot 100 or even 200 miles away. Is there a certain proximity the dealer will stay within?

I am not sure about the states, but my dealer looked all across Canada, and found me my 07 in Edmonton 850kms away, and my 06 in Calgary about 750 kms away, so I guess up here it doesn't matter where it is, it seems they just have to call up and make a deal to get the car to where you are at.

Usually the dealer can go to the regional manager level, so it depends on how big your region is.

You will have a harder time locating specific color combo on a 350 than a 250. There seems to be alot more 250's to choose from than 350's.

For me cause I have narrowed down to just a couple color combos that I will accept, the car I want fully optioned in my color combo just doesn't exist. I seriously did not think it was going to be this difficult in the 2nd model yr to find what I am looking for.

My dealer did look at the PC and I looked to and saw what was coming in, only 1 350 but it was wrong color combo and didnt have PA either. Another dealer few weeks ago searched region and found one but wrong color combo. But if your looking for Prem Pkg only there should be more to pick from out there.

There is no limit as to how far they can go, but NY has very tough emission laws and lot of cars out of NY won't pass emissions and can't be registered in NY. I did a swap once for my dealership with a dealership out of PA and then I wasn't able to sell the vehicle because the Title didn't show 50 state or CA emissions on it, so I had to send it back to the same dealer.

I had asked my dealer this exact question.

They first search within 100 miles to find the car. If they can find it "regionally," then they will search anywhere to find the car, including those vehicles that are on their way to the US, if they haven't already been allocated already.
