Default Headlamp replacement...

Heres my story. I recently replaced my OEM low beam bulbs with some Xenonvalot D4S bulbs. OEM was fine, but not my new ones, they ended up with a very wierd output. I didnt want to make a mistake on trying to adjust the headlights, so I took it to a local Toyota dealership to get them adjusted. The technician was able to make the driver's side out put a lil better but said he couldnt fully adjust them because of he didnt have knowledge how to adjust the adaptive turning lights. Few days later I take it to a Lexus dealership and come to find that the adjusters are stripped and I need to replace both headlamps for a price of $2100! Ive tried adjusting them myself after hearing the news and sure enough, nothing moved from both adjusters.

Ouch, sorry to hear. But you should have never taken it to the Toyota dealership. I mean, was the Lexus dealer gonna charge you for adjusting it in the first place?

So the toyota dealership screw it up by adjusting beyond its limit and strip the plastic socket inside the headlight? Once thos plastic pieces are strip there are no adjustments. Open up the headlights and replace the plastic rivets or however it is called.Lowes have them. I have open up a few headlights before to do some retrofitting(not on the IS) but Im pretty sure its the same. If not then a new set is the way to go.
Ill buy your defected ones if you decide.

Besides regretting not letting a Lexus dealer to do, you should also regret putting an HID kit in a halogen projector....

These kind of "mods" are not a good idea, and that's how all your problem started to begin with.

He put D4S bulbs in so he had OEM HIDs. Thanks for sharing your opinion on mods though.

Removing the headlights is not an easy task. I did it last night and the remove and reassembly took 4hrs. I will post pictures and instructions when I get home. I did it to change the turn signals to LED.

Wow, Looking forward to pics. I took off my bumper to change the bulbs, thankfully I was able to change the turn signals without removing anything else. Yeah, everything looks like a PITA to take apart.

Couldn't you just lift the wheel well covers out and replace it from there? Thats how most vehicle is done. Because I wouldn't think Lexus would take out the front fascia everytime they need to replace a bulb.

Take a look at where the turn signals are on the 2IS. It's located directly on the front of the headlights. The bulbs go straight "up" into the housing from the bottom. Also, there are a total of four bulbs. Removing the front bumper is required. Infact, Lexus even have these long stick adapters that sticks out that helps you un-twist the bulb and pull it out.

I wish it was easier....
