Default Tire valve broke, need help

I was checking my tire pressure, and after I closed it with a wrench to make sure its tight and no one steals the valve screw for their bike or anything like that. Well I tightened it too much and the valve stem broke in half and all the air came out of the tire. Now one half of the valve stem stem is stuck in the tire cap screw. How can I fix this ASAP?!

Uh...put the spare on, and take your flat tire in to the dealer to get a new valve stem installed. There's no quick fix for this.

Oh bummer dude! You may need to order a new sensor since the valve stem is part of the sensor. The part number is 42607-30030 for the sensor and 04423-35020 for the fitting kit (gasket).

Is it possible to just replace the metal part without replacing the sensor. How much will a single new sensor cost? I took it to the tire shop and they said I need to take it to the dealer cause of the sensor.

I would email lexus.parts.com with the part number i gave you and ask. It should be less than $100, which is much cheaper than at the dealer.

Physically you may be able to just replace the metal stem but since there is no separate part number for just that part, it looks like you will have to replace the sensor.

Thanks I took your advice and emailed them. I will also see if the dealer can replace it under warranty.

Of course, you know this now, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a few dozen cap covers, to replace any stolen ones, instead of using a wrench?

sensor and stem are the same, so you need to replace the whole unit.......

It is not worthy. My IS lost two of those four caps once. When I take it in for the 5K service, they put two new one on. That's without me requesting for them.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. After four of my valve covers were stolen, I tightened mine with a wrench too, but was careful not to do it too tightly. Now I know what happens when too much torque is applied. Good luck.

I'm glad you learned from my experience. I actually learned to use a wrench to tighten them from these forums. Guess it's not such a good idea.

It's a fine idea as long as you don't overtighten them. I would not apply more torque than I could apply with a screwdriver (40 - 60 in-lbs). If you put a 10mm socket on a 3/8 drive ratchet, yes, you will easily break the stem off.

It's an unfortunately expensive lesson.
