Well, I thought at my age (39) I had mellowed out and would appreciate the fine amenities the Lexus IS250 had to offer.

Well that all went out the window after visiting my folks out in LA.

I decided to go test drive one of the new GTI's because I started to want a more fun car. Unfortunately for the GTI the salesman also sold Nissans. So what does he suggest I test drive..... why a 350z. Now I always liked the new design when they came out in 2003 but never really thought about getting one.

That all change after the test drive. Fortunately for me the young salesman wanted to see how I could drive the 350z since drove the hell out of the GTI.

The second I sat in the car I knew this was good. I always loved the sports car seating low to the floor. I also very much liked the low roof line and the cockpit feel it offered.

Once on the road I instantly enjoyed the torque and power that was available, (you 350 owners know what I mean), there were several times we came to an intersection that was clear of cars so I blipped the throttle dropped it in second gave it some gas, the rear end came out as I feathered the gas the car calmly came back and accelerated off.

This car is freakin fun. Even though it weights as much as my old is250 it sure doesn't feel the same. Much easier to drive at the limits.

So when I got home did some research looked at a bunch of new and used cars and ended up trading in my is250 RWD and getting an 2006 350z two nights ago. The tax savings made up for the difference I would had gotten if I sold the IS private party.

God I love this car. It brings me back to my days in the RX7 except with a lot more power. Guess I'm having an early mid-life crisis, LOL.

Sounds like you really should have bought an IS350 instead of a 250. Trading in a car during the first year of ownership = OUCH!

 

I'm starting to feel the same way. However, I'm 23. As each day goes by, I've been wondering more and more why am I driving a Lexus at this age, after driving my friend's STi, I become more and more convinced that the STi is what I need.

I can easily give up the features that come with the Lexus (Nav, Bluetooth, backup camera, heated/cooled seats, keyless feature, voice activated controls, AFS, etc...).

Someone else chime in if they have also done what JJWALKER has done and if there are any regrets. I'd hate to sell the IS for an STi and have regrets...

Nissan ever get that front tire wear thing worked out with the 350z?

Heck, Maybe the dealer will throw in a extra set of fronts. Good luck with that.

 

new updated 350Z is coming out with the 306 hp engine, might wanna look into that

Never can figure out why young-ish folks buy a Lexus and then are dissatisfied with them. Hey, it's not the cars fault, it's your fault for not researching what you really want. No one forced you into buying the Lexus, it was your decision You can't compare the 250 with the Z car ..... it's a total mismatch. That's a **** up on your part. Why would you think a 250 would satisfy you?? A properly optioned IS 350 would have met your expectations, imo.

 

Calm down Evitzee. No one was blaming Lexus for anything, they simply posted about how they felt... Why do people around here take such matter so personally I will never know.

I did almost the exact opposite...

I owned a 2002 Honda S2000 and a 2003 Nissan 350Z.

I loved that the Honda revved so high and handled so well. I dropped it with H&Rs and had some 18's on it. The thing handled like it was on rails. The gearbox was probably the best I've ever felt coming straight from the factory. The only thing it lacked was the low end power.

The Z on the other hand was not as impressive. The interior felt like it was lacking and felt quite "plasticky"? The power was great and the exhaust tone is beautiful. I loved the way the car looked too. Looking out the driver's side mirror over the rear left wheel looked like the side of a 911 Porsche. Gear shifter felt loose and the steering didn't feel as good as the Honda.

SO, here I am now with the IS350 and I love it. The power is there. The interior is luxurious, and I love the looks. Smartkey, bluetooth, and voice rec. nav are major bonuses too.

 

I love the the new 350Z. The car looks awsome. The guy in the parking space next to me in my parking garage has a blue one. It's a definitly a cool car. Congrats!
