I've never taken long enough to enter a destination to find out...

i was just thinking...correct me if im wrong...but if the nav locks it self again after a min or so going at high speeds...wouldnt this mod be farily useless for those that want to be able to watch dvds while driving??? unless they dont mind constatnly turning the switch "on" and "off"

If you do the nav hack in conjunction with the switch, like technique recommends, then you would want the switch in its "normal" on position. Then you could watch DVD, do Mp3, and blue tooth. The only time you would turn the switch off is to input a destination into the GPS. Under all other circumstance the "nav hack" takes care of the DVD viewing problem.

Okay, so suppose that something bad happens, and my Nav is shot after a couple of years.

What does all this hacking mean to my warranty?

Me thinks that the warranty is null and void. I wouldn't dare take this chance if a replacement will cost me serious jack.

I read recently here that you can use the 2006 disc with the 2007 maps and eliminate the need to cut wires. I wonder why more people haven't looked into this option.

Because the 2006 disc is flawed, and has guided people into the ocean. There was a technical service bulletin out on it for a replacement.

Are the replacements 07 discs or fixed 06 discs?

BTW, there is a firmware (V1600) that still has the software override, and also fixes the satellite locking issue.

The reason for this switch is because, personally, I prefer to have the ability to override at the flip of a switch, not a sequence of button presses...

Do you recall which data version the v1600 corresponds too printed on the disc? Was it 05.1?

Default Navi Hack lighted switch

Hey guys, two things:

1) For those of you who might be a little confused when doing the NAVI hack like me, even with the 300 posts and the high-res pictures, I have the following helpful hints for you:
a) The vent tabs should be pushed DOWN and will stay down.
b) The pink wire (J50 bundle) coming from the car should be connected to the white/silver cable (bundle UNDER J50 going to J1)
c) E-tape, cap the cut ends (pink, J50 and white/silver, J1)

2) I have a lighted SPST switch connected to the pink and white/silver wires. What do I need to make the light go on (relay, a different switch)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok..

so from your Pm..

Pink wire(coming from the car)===== connect====>white/silver wire(to plug BELOW the J50, NOT to the J50 plug)

then cap off
Pink wire(from J50)
White/silver wire (from P1)

correct
