Default Duration between oil changes

Got my oil changed with Mobil 1 synthetic. I drive about 2,000 miles a month (mainly highway) and am wondering if I can go 10,000 miles between oil check ups. I had an Audi that went 10,000 between oil changes and so does my wife's Saab.

What duration do you suggest?

It has been reported here that the oil change interval in the UK is 10,000 miles, so you should have no problem going that far, especially since you use synthetic oil and do primarily highway miles.

Personally, I'm going to follow the factory recommended maintenance schedule while the car is under warranty. Since I do the changes myself, I view it as cheap insurance against warranty hassles should I ever have a failure that could be blamed on skipping scheduled maintenance.

For other opinions, you may want to do a search for "oil change interval"; this topic has been discussed extensively.

I do 10k changes, but change the filter at 5k and top off. It's a quick refresh on the additive package, and I've been doing it this way for a long time.
