Default Do you warm your car up before driving it?

How long do you warm your ISx50 up for before taking off? I read somewhere that it's better on the engine to just take off as soon as you start the engine, but not throttle it too much because it harms the engine more to warm it up on idle. Is this true?

That's what I have always done. I'll think you will find an old thread on this subject. The majority of the people who actually have knowledge in this area all tend to agree that it is much better on the engine to drive it or put the engine under load vs. just letting it idle to warm up.

so you need to give the engine a second or two maybe even a minute if you live in minnesota before you pull away, it's only natural.

I wait 30 seconds. Once it starts getting super cold, I'll let it warm up until I can get hot air.

There are glow plugs in the coolant system to heat the coolant as quickly as possible when the engine is cold. This helps deliver heat to the cabin sooner, but also costs you thermal efficiency since you are converting fuel to electricity to resistance heat and there are losses at each conversion. The idea is to provide heated air as quickly as possible to the cabin. This is covered in both the new car features book and the factory service manual.

yes. I warm it up until the initial hum goes away...like 20 seconds.
If it is cold outside, I may warm up up to 2 minutes.

I give it a few seconds before I put it in gear. If its really cold outside, I'll give it a minute or two before putting it in gear.
