Default Another Winter Tire Question - Same Size ???

Used the search but can't find what I am looking for. My question is:

Can I run 225/40/18 all around for snow tires on an IS350 ?? Will they fit OK???

I want to use the standard rims (18 inch) for snow tires and get a new set of rims in the spring. Any help appreciated, thanks.

You can but the sidewall in the back will be stetched a little. Here in UT I had the same ?'s I found that there are companies (Cooper Tires I think) that make winter tires in 245/45/18 but they get expensive. 225 up front and 245 in back cost around $1000. I'm going to look at all-seasons they should be less and still be drivable. But that's just me.

Why not get snow tires with OEM sizes? I understand the desire to maximize winter traction by increasing sidewall height and running a narrower width, but will the difference in overall traction overall be significant? I see you live in Canada, but did you look at winter tires in OEM size? I live in Michigan and with the one run in with snow so far this year, my Dunlop WinterSport M3's did well with 255's in the rear and 225 up front.

Thanks for the response, that is what I am now leaning towards. Been out of the country for the past three weeks and need to get something done before the snow starts falling here.
