Old thread, but glad someone searches before posting a new thread!

To me it takes a bit more of force than I would have initially thought, but the fact is the hood is aluminum and it have hydro lifts...so there are two forces right there at work against us.

Yeah so true , in other cars usually the bonnet is very heavy so they just shut close as soon as you drop them. It's not the case with our IS though. Initially I was a bit worried about the way I was closing it , thinking something might break the way I was slamming it , so was planning to inform my SA this week but this thread saved me that time :-) .
