IS350 Road Trip....Top Speed?
I decided to take a little road trip yesterday and see if I could find a place to open her up. I headed on hwy 10 from Phoenix to Tucson. I figured it’s about an hour trip and I should make it down by lunchtime. Traffic kinda sucked for about 30min and I was getting a little discouraged that I was not going to be able to open her up. After passing Casa Grande “cop haven” I seen I had no one in front of me for as far as I could see. I decided to take a chance and open her up. I pushed the gas to the floor and hit 100mph with no problem. Honestly it felt like I was going 50mph. I let off and as I passed some bushes on the side of the hwy that cops could be sitting behind. I finally had another clear stretch of road again so I slammed the gas again. This time I said to my self I’m going to try and hit the limiter…100mph…105…. 110…. no limiter so I stayed on the gas just to see…..120mph still nothing I hit about 125mph and freaked out and let off ….. Now to give you a picture I have had very fast cars before “93 and 94 Supra TT” and have gotten them both up to 150mph… Anyway on the way home I didn’t feel like pushing my luck with the cops so I filled up the tank and wanted to se how good of gas mileage I could get. I reset the mileage and babied it all the way home. Honestly I tried to stay at about 75 the entire way. When I got home it said that my mileage was 28.9 per gallon… Now I know that it would have been way lower if I got on it again but I love a car that gets great mileage and will pull you back in the chair when you get on it! Anyway….Does anyone know why I didn’t hit some sort of top speed limiter??

One day I'm going to take my IS350 back to this place during the daylight, wide open straight and mostly flat for over a mile, two lanes, can't see traffic on the other side for the forest, just a few miles from the state line, and you can sit on the ramp and watch the traffic go by and wait for 5 minutes to ensure there is nobody up ahead of you including leo, just gotta peek behind you when you enter the highway to make sure no one is sneaking up behind you.

Apparently some people think their speedometers are accurate. I know better. The car is limited to 142 no matter what the speedo indicates. They're allowed 6% error.

Irresponsible
Better yet, take your car to a track day and get in a safe environment where you can explore the real potential.
Again, I can see the hate mail already coming in, but I don't see anything 'cool' in your video.

yea just like they all said, u didnt feel the speed limiter because u didnt get to the limit
ive done about 140 a few times, twice in the Meadowbrook Pkwy in Long Island, and once in the Jersey Turnpike,(i know im lucky i didnt get pulled over on the NJ Turnpike, but i did right after i slowed down and was doing 72... SUCKS but atleast i didnt get caught at 140)

Maybe so. But I can't remember a road test where the speedo was checked where it was not spot on with no errors. Years ago true.......but today there right on the money. If you notice when reading a road test in say C/D or Automobile magazine they don't even test them most of the them.......why? Cause they know there accruate.....
It's easy to make them correct in this day and age. 6%! NO way Jose. I've driven pass those electronic speed traps around SC and I'm right on the money every time.
