Default 2007 Nav upgraded?

Anyone with a 2007,

Do the 2007 vehicles come with an updated nav disc?
Has the database (map information) been updated?
In Canada the map info seems 2-3 years old... sucks!

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the NAV on the Gen 5's are GPS based, meaning a satellite tracks where you are, and there is no map DVD, so I don't think an upgrade is available when it comes to NAV anymore.

Satellite (global positioning system) usues 24 satellites to provide the information needed to the car to show you where you are on the map. as for the "picture" part or the map part, The roads... the street names, the nice green grass and buildings you see on the screen... that info has to be stored somwhere... in the IS's case on a DVD. That data does not come from the satellites.

The GPS part basically tracks your coordinates, you still need the software to plot those coordinates onto a map with street data and what not.

Yes you are mistaken. There's a DVD Map hidden behide the clock panel.

Yes. The 2007 has version 6. I don't know how much of a difference it will really make, but it is more current than the 2006 models version 5 disk.

Of course, you can walk to the Lexus part dept and order a copy of the version 6 DVD map disc for a fee. The last time I checked it was around $2xx.00

Apparently on the '07s they also disabled the over ride button hack to change destination while driving!

More accurately, they changed the commands to get into the service menu. Most likely there is still a service menu, and the override, someone just has to find the sequence, which will happen in a few months no doubt...
