Default got hit yesterday

was waiting at a stop light and the person behind me decides to bump me. No one was injured, my bumper just has license plate indentations in it (also a little crack).

My question is can Lexus just order me a factory painted bumper cover?? Or will it have to be painted. If painted, will the paint ever be as good as factory?

Car is Tungsten, so it shouldn't be that hard to match??

What a hassle!

Sorry about your car...most imprortantly no one was hurt!

1. yes it is a hassle
2. no, lexus cannot get you a pre-paited bumbercover.
3. there should be no problem for a GOOD shop to paint match. just make sure you go to one that has a good rep.

Your baby will look good is new.

I believe so, I filed a claim with his insurance and am supposed to hear something monday. I called the local cops and filed a report and he got a ticket.

His car is a company car, so I didn't know what to do, I figured the cop might.

You do the same thing you always do. Get their insurance information... whether it's his personal insurance or the company's insurance doesn't really make a difference as far as you care.

When the Lexus dealership (emphasis: LEXUS dealership) fixes it for you, they'll make sure it looks as good as new. I wouldn't even worry about it. (Bear in mind you have the absolute right to have your car repaired at the garage of your choice, and the onus is on them to complain if they don't like that - and for a new car, that's very, very difficult to do.)

sorry to hear that

I would insist on a brand new bumper cover and match paint...be careful when you pick it up and make sure the color match is acceptable to you and ask them to redo it if you're not happy with the match.

Your baby will be brand new soon!

Make sure the insurance company gives you the cash to REPLACE the factory bumper. If there are indentations and a crack, there is no way you can repair it to have the integrity as it would brand new, (those areas on the bumper will always be problematic if just covered up). Get whatever shop that's gonna do the writeup to include a new bumper, not just a repainted one.

I wouldn't even bother - I'd just tell them you'll be taking it to a Lexus dealership, and they can call the Lexus dealership to handle financing. That way you avoid being stuck in the middle if something goes wrong or the estimate is low.

So just take it to my dealership and they'll fix it and work with the insurance company?

Yep.

They might try to get you to accept cash - I'd refuse, because you don't know if there is more damage that will be revealed when the Lexus dealership takes off the bumper and looks underneath. Just tell them to talk to the Lexus dealership for repair information.

Wrong. Lady backed into my car and cracked my rear bumper. I went through my insurance they just said send off to Longo Lexus and they will take care of it all immediately, repair process started three days after the incident due to weekend. A few days I went to go check up on it and my bumper just arrived and it was boxed up and already prepainted straight from the factory. Took me a week due to waiting for the bumper to ship.

Gl with your repair! My process was very easy thanks to Triple A, repaired professionallly and got reinbursed for rental car from the other insurance company quickly!

A prepainted bumper seems like a bad idea. There is variance in any paint depending on many factors, and this removes the dealer's ability to color match. I would think you'd see a difference in the paint on most vehicles.

You might not see a big difference on crystal white, but darker colors would probably be a nightmare.

Are you sure the bumper came painted from the factory? Or was it painted at a local boby shop and then shipped to the dealer? Most dealerships use Good outside bodyshops for repair work. But they do say you learn something new everyday.
