Question Lightweight Lug nuts

Anyone know of some nice lightweight lug nuts that will fit the 2IS? Thinking of ways to reduce weight especially rotational weight without getting new wheels. I'm also planning on getting Michelin PS2 tires that will save a few lbs over the stock Dunlops.

I did come across a company called Muteki, that seems to make lightweight lug nuts.

Asked TunedRX300 over in my RX300 forum. I believe he was using these.

I have Ray's Duralumin lugs coming for the IS. I had them on my G and the were great despite many changes (street/track).

Don't expect to loose a ton of weight though. I think the Ray's are about the lightest you can get at approx. .8 oz whereas regular lugs are usually just over 2 oz.

So basically, you're losing about 24 oz of total weight. Not much so you'll have to do a cost/benefit analysis (1.5 lbs for $100+.)

Yeah if they are in the $100 range then I'll pass. I saw the Muteki's at $45 which seems more reasonable, but dunno if they fit our car. Also this is rotational weight, though not far from the hubs so we could save slightly more than 1.5lbs.

Cwest lugs, Rays, and Project U lugs are pretty lightweight. .

They have ones that will work. I've heard too many stories about the muteki's breaking though.

Rotational weight is the worst kind. However, even if you multiply the weight by a factor of four, it's still only about 6 lb deadweight difference.

I do it for the weight and the looks.

I wouldn't pay $5 (much less $100...) to lose 24 oz of unsprung (or sprung) weight. I mean, each wheel/tire combo weighs, what, 50-60 pounds? You're whacked if you think you can tell the difference of 6 oz at each corner.

Any issues with the strength of these lightweight nuts? That's something to consider.

if you got some extra pounds on yourself you can work those off easier, better weight reduction results in the car vs lugs, and feel great afterwards

About as useless as a milk bucket under a bull. Counting every ounce on a heavy 4-door sporty/lux sedan? C'mon.

You'd be better served dropping ten pounds from the driver's seat.

Yeah if I had any extra weight to lose I would lose it, but I'm already pretty lean.(5'8@158lbs) And you are all right in that the difference won't be noticable, but combine that with lighter tires and it should make a slight difference at the track. Definitely don't want some that break!

caymandive -

keep us updated on what you end up with...

I was just going to order the McGard lug-nuts from the group buy...but I am really interested in saving as much weight as possible from the rotational weight.

The McGard's run $79 shipped, so I would be interested in any light weight options in that price range.

try putting helium in the tires; or not buying more than half of tank of gas. I once saw a post on G35 forum that a guy quickly got 250 lbs off his G35C, by telling his wife to get out of the vehicle.

The guys running 20's are probably in that range. My 18"s with PS2's will be about ~41-42lbs in the front and about 44-45 lbs in the rear.

Some have a rep of breaking while others don't. I've never heard a neg comment on the Ray's.

I have Muteki conical seat lugs with 5Zigen wheels on my Scion tC. I drive the car pretty hard for street, but have not tracked it. I've had no issues with my lugs despite going from a 17 x 7 to a 17 x 8.5 and a 215/45 to a 245/40 tire. Total wheel weight is about 43 lbs, so it's not especially light. However the tC is about 500 lbs lighter than the IS.
