Default Clear Bra Self Installation

Ive seen clear bra kits on ebay for like 200 bux, thats the whole kits the mirrors, bumpter, and hood. I was just wondering if anyone has bought one of these and installed it them selfves? Is it that hard? 200 bux and some sweat sure beats 700 bux for professionally installed.

Save yourself some headache and get it from aerotect.
It's very hard you need atleast a couple of people to help you that atleast know what they're doing.

yes, you can do it yourself, but it's not easy at all, and pretty tiring. i did my cars before, results were ok but not perfect. took me like 3 or 4 install to know some tricks

if i were to do it again, i would just pay the money

Dam thats bad news. I saw those things on ebay for that cheap it got my hopes up that I might be able to do it myself for a lot cheaper but I guess not. I dont want to pay 200 bux for something that is really hard to install. What about those tail light smoke out overlays from aerotect how hard are those to install?

Go to xpel.com, and do it yourself. Install is pretty easy I found.

Don't bother with Aerotech. I asked them several times if they have precut for HW and PA, and they never responded.

I just got quoted 560 out the door for clear bra installation and smoked tail lights you guys think thats a good price? The clear bra is the hood, fender, and side mirrors so its not the full kit and its the 3M clear bra. I think thats a heck of a deal has anyone got quoted better?

Look at it this way: how much did you pay for your car/how would you feel seeing chips and marks on your hood/front bumper before you've had your car for a month? Speaking for myself, I remember purchasing a `99 GS300 new and in about a month's time I had a large chip on the front of my hood. After that experience I began investing in clear bras. I've put clear bras on 4 cars since then. My installer charges $1K, and gives a lifetime guarantee. Expensive, I know, but worth every penny. You didn't indicate which IS you own, but, regardless, you probably paid more than $43K; certainly more than enough to justify the cost of having a clear bra installed.

Lifetime guarantee against what? Likely not rock penetration, only against installation or defective material. So the guarantee is pretty much useless. I had a rock mar the last 3M I put on, and there wasn't anything to cover that, even though it said "Lifetime guarantee". So read the fine print.

After your two comments on this thread, you seem pretty bitter towards Aero Tect (a paid vendor on this forum)... Did they do something personal to you?

I didn't mind their service, quite friendly, and I didn't mind the price... was pretty standard rate here in So Cali.

I paid for a $40k+ car... another 700-800 bucks for full hood car protection is very little in comparision.

You're correct that reading the warranty is crucial. I'm a lawyer, so I try to be very careful when reading any type of contract. Also, a reputable installer counts for a lot. My installer, Rob, is the owner of Maryland Performance Works and he uses "Proform", a film developed by 3M. Maryland Performance Works does the clear bras for Team Lexus' cars. If the film becomes marred, discolored, or is defective, Rob will replace it. He has done 4 cars for me since 2004, and I have had no complaints yet. The covers that he put on the headlights of my `04 GX470 recently began to curl around the edges; he replaced them at no charge. The warranty states in writing that it also covers damage to paint sustained by rock, stone, or bug damage on areas covered by the Proform.

My brother and I installed one of those clearbras from Ebay. I'm not going to say it was the easiest thing to install, but I don't think it was worth an extra $300-400 to have someone install the thing. If you can tint a window, you could probably install a clearbra. You're basically doing the same thing. The parts that are really hard to get installed are the side mirrors and the headlights.

The kit I purchased on Ebay went for about $230-250 and was made out of 3M film.
