Default For those with NAV...

I know you can't change the destination while you're driving, unless you hack it. Is that the only
thing you can't do with the NAV while driving? Could you change the climate controls (fan speed,
vents, temperature) while driving? Just want to know the limits of the NAV system.

Thanks.

...and just for the record so others who read this thread don't get confused, you cannot change the nav destination while in motion even if you hack the nav. Hacking the nav means cutting the wires and reconnecting them permanently thru the prescribed process.

The only way to change the destination while driving is to perform the nav override, which is a series of steps you perform on the nav screen. Presently you will need to perform these steps each and every time you restart the nav.

nav override is not difficult at all to do, takes not time IMO.

For one thing, it will allow you to continue to play video DVDs visibly on the nav screen while your car is in forward motion.

It will allow you to see artist and song titles, detail screens on audio system, and will allow you to use the phone book and see caller-id number for your bluetooth cell phone.

You can still take care of functions that you'd otherwise be able to control without NAV, such as climate control, audio controls, etc. Frankly, the only functions Lexus disabled while driving are those that most of us have no business playing with while we're at the wheel (unless we have an annoying passenger that won't stop touching the Nav screen).

I guess I have too many cars with voice recognition right now, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you CAN change destination while moving if you do it via voice command.

Can't you say "Address", then enter the state, city , street and number by voice and set a destination? It's late, or I'd go out and verify it ...

Yes you can, but by the time you actually got through the entire voice process, you would have passed your destination. the voice commands leave a lot to be desired.... my $.02

Yes, as you say one can enter a destination while driving via the voice recognition feature. It may take a minute or so, but IMHO it makes doing the nav-hack unnecessary.

I have to disagree with that....the phone access alone makes the hack worth every penny....which is FREE!

I'm not sure what you mean. You can also do all your phoning via voice recognition while driving. And considering some of the nav-hack problems I've read about on CL I don't really think it's that free.

The override trick doesn't seem to work in Europe. Isn't there any other backdoor?
