I have the sports package myself, and i say just get the lux package because
even with the sports package these cars don't handle very well, so you might
as well have the smooth ride at least.. The only thing I really like about the
sports package is the half an inch lowered ride height, and the pedals are pretty
cool too.. I'd rather have the wood trimmed interior.

Yeah tell him to give you a additional $1500 off msrp for the mess up. The situation you are in allows you to negociate alot more money for the HUGE mistake. I wouldnt take the car if the dealer adds ANOTHER $1500+ lower to the deal we already agreed on.

I would question whether the dealer acutally placed a special order, but instead just requested an allocation preference. In doing so they may have just gotten a car that was close, but not an exact match. I have heard of this happening to other people.

however OP isnt you, the point is he special ordered a car and got a different car, id be pissed thats the whole point of a special order, to get what you wanted. Not a "oh I guess this will do" order

Im sure you be pretty upset if you ordered a double cheeseburger and the fast food place oh I got you a chicken sandwich instead

Not if I found out the chicken sandwich was actually much better than the double cheeseburger..

Yea sure you can swap out a few things like the pedals and suspension but why pay all that money to end up doing all of that extra stuff? You requested a certain type of car and that's what you should get.
I totally 100% agree with that.

The limited slip will come into play whenever you break traction (from acceleration) at the rear wheels. With limited slip, both wheels continue to be driven with roughly the same power being delivered to both wheels. The benefit of that, is the car maintains a more true course when there is wheelspin, and it also allows the power to be properly distributed to both wheels. With no limited slip differential, when there is wheelspin, only one wheel will spin, leaving the other drive wheel useless. The easiest explanation and example, is to drive in the snow. Hit the gas and induce wheelspin. With limited slip, both wheels will continue to provide power and traction under acceleration. Without limited slip, one wheel will spin out of control while the other 3 wheels just sit there and do nothing.

I believe the brakes are slightly bigger on the sport also.

Not with traction control, as on the IS. When one wheel slips, the ABS controller will detect it, reduce engine power, and apply the brake ONLY on the wheel that is spinning. In doing so, it is effectively transfering torque to the wheel with traction. It is no where near as unobtrusive as a real limited slip, but it does accomplish the objective.

If I were you, I wouldn't take $500 and "settle" for the Lux. The dealer would be getting away with a big screw up if you took the $500 and be done with the deal. Even with $1500, I'd MAYBE think about it. If however, they told you that they'd swap out the suspension, install sport pedals AND give you $500 then ok that sounds like a deal. But if it's just a straight up $500 cash, no way!

The dealer isn't stupid. They're likely not going to give away the farm on this deal. They will easily be able to sell the car with or without you. They are more likely to just say, we'll re-order your car, and you'll have to wait (again).

Best way to settle this is to go take the Lux vesion for a nice long 1 hour test drive, and if the handling is good enough for you, then go for it.. Don't ruin what may be a great oppurtunity
to save some extra money.. don't be mad just out of spite, it will get you nowhere in the long run...For me personally i would have gotten the Lux package, then lowered it...
