Default jacking up the car

ok so i looked thru the manual on how to jack up the car. theres 4 points near each wheel plus one in the front under the engine and another at the rear.

the front one is too far back and my hydraulic floor jack can't reach it way back there. i tried one of the jack points near the driver side front wheel. i attempted to lift it at that point but i think that point is intended only for the stock jack (like a tongue and groove type deal) that comes with the car because the vertical metal strip started to bend! i immediately lowered the car back down. i don't wanna use the stock screw scissor jack everytime i wanna lift the car. how does everybody else jack up their car using a floor jack???

Thats one of the big things I hate about unibody vehicles. But usually they have a spot where a floor jack's lift pad can be placed without causing any damage.

It's a PITA, but if you have ramps, get the car on the ramps so you can remove the darn bellypan. Then roll the car down the ramps, put 2 pieces of 2x6 lumber (I bought an 8' piece and got it cut at Lowes) against your garage stop, and put the car on top of them. Oh, and put the jack in front, against the garage 'step' before stepping on the wood, or you won't be able to slip the jack in. And bingo! You can lift your car from the middle. By the way, I haven't done this on my SC (just the ramps), but it should be the same as on my SC400 and GS400.
I haven't done the rear ever, but a tire place had one SC430 up by the differential to change the tires. Doesn't sound too good, but maybe it's safe, since it's attached to the unibody. Anybody know if it's safe? My manual only mentions the 4 points for the scissor jack... as expected. When I get my exhaust, I hope my Rhino ramps give me enough clearance to remove the front bolts behind the cat.
Good luck, and keep us posted. I'd like to know about the rear too.
JC

EDIT: Sorry; thought I was on the SC board. Should be the same though. RWD with unibody.

I've jacked up the rear of my car once to remove a nail and patch up one of my tires. Unfortunatly I do not recall where I jacked it up from, but there was a spot plenty sturdy enough. I have no idea about the front though.

Kind of the same thing here, I jacked it up from the front but I'm not sure where exactly and it didn't cause any damage. I think I used the spot the manual said to use and it worked fine...

The differential is the rear jack point. It is safe.

I'm rather miffed about the lack of side jack points, since you can't really use jack stands.

I bought a hydraulic scissor jack and never looked back. It won't crush the metal rails like a regular hydraulic jack....plus you don't have to crank until your damn arm falls off.....

tell ya what, go to walmart and buy a pair of Rhino ramps for about 30 bucks. One of the best investments you'll ever make for DIY 2nd gen maintenance. Thank me later. lol

guys, they make slotted pads that enable you to use the factory jack points with proper floorjacks without destroying the rails...

These suk....they look so unstable due to the universal size and the height of it. I have one that I never used if anyone wants to buy it.

There's a few pictures of where I jacked up the car. Good luck with that.

Thanks! I'm not sure whether the top of my jack will fit into that round indent on the oil tank. Did yours fit good?
