How do I check??
I'm very excited to pick up my IS350 Red/black sports/nav baby tomorrow. I spoke with the sales dude about the seat belt recall, and he said it was already fixed. How can I check whether it's really fixed???
Why do people obsess over this? If it isn't fixed, you'll get a letter from Lexus requiring you to bring it in. I haven't gotten a notice yet, I'm not panicking, so I assume it's fine. Not every car was affected, and I'm sure they've corrected it in production. Just get the car and enjoy it.
Well thanks Mofogasm
Of all the discussions on here about the recall I don't think anyone mentioned that it was Dec 05 and prior affected. So that is probably why I wasn't notified. Mine went to production January 24th. I think I'll still inquire about it when I go for my 5k service.

You should know that only ONE source that I have read about has placed car manufacturer specific dates on the recall. And that source WASN'T Lexus. I am reading the official Safety Recall Notice and the letter does not mention any dates at all; it only mentions early 2006 model year.... If someone says it is for cars produced in a certain month, either they are making up that date based on what they think "early" means or they are reporting that they might have heard this date off the record from Lexus. So don't depend on that bit of information, go by the VIN. In a factory, parts bins are all over, trackable, but not always used sequentially. Shipments comes and go....etc.
As for the recall, like all recalls it is a safety recall and it is for the seatbelt. My interpretation of the notice is that they will replace a component that is likely to fail. The failure of this component will make it difficult if not impossible for you to wear or buckle your seatbelt and because you might not wear your seatbelt, you are at risk (but I know some people will argue this point about not wear seats belts).
It is always best to have your safety recall work done at the dealership (I know some people hate their dealerships) but if you can put your seatbelt on, your part hasn't failed yet. And apparently it's not going to impact the performance during a crash. Just hope it doesn't fail while you are away from home and it forces you to drive without a seatbelt. If that is the case, I'm sure Lexus will bring a car to you.
This is a minor recall at best, my car was affected and I got the work done, but my seatbelt never malfunctioned. I am aware that some of the other folks on this board did so it's a good thing Lexus caught this.

For those that bothered to check, you would see that the seatbelt retractor recall affects only some IS's, produced between 8/23/05 - 12/23/05. Specifically VIN ranges:
BK262x62000010-BK262x62006901
BK262x65000018-BK262x65009068
CK262x62000003-BK262x62001923
CK262x65000013-BK262x65003465
BE262x62000000-BK262x62002347
BE262x65000018-BK262x65004449
My serial number missed the range by so few digits
Conforming why I never received a recall notice.
