yup, auto-folding mirror is like a standard feature in most of the Asia countries, not just Japan. If you do not use mirror folding option, most likely you will find yourself with a damage mirror one day. Everytime I go to Taiwan, I had trouble finding parking space in Taipei (even in the no parking red zone). There are just way too many cars in a small place. I definitly DO NOT wish US to be the same way, thus no need for the auto-folding feature.
I would love to have the auto-folding mirrors. Our Benz has it and you can program it to be linked to the remote lock so they close in every time you lock the car. I am in Pittsburgh and parking spots are at a premium, hence all parking spots are tiny.
The mirrors definitely take a beating and often people scratch the cars trying to walk between them. I am too lazy to manually close them every time so auto folding would have been great. Since many order their cars custom built in the case of the IS, Lexus could have offered it as a factory option.
I also love the projected path markers they have with the rear view camera in the European models ala the Infiniti. When I tested the M, I thought those markers were great. Not sure why Lexus would hold out on that here as it is probably a mere software upgrade.
