Disable or not disable - $1,000 and 4 days ??? TIME FOR A NEW DEALER. Makes you wonder how much they ripped you off on the original purchase...

For my first service I asked them to do it too and they said we cant because its against the law.
I know its not since I work for a car dealership here in vegas, so I called one of their mechanics I sold a Scion tC to and he did it for me for free in 2 minutes.

i had a similar problem. i asked them to do it at the local lexus, not the one i bought from, and they said A it was impossiblr B against the law. i A showed him the instructions B informed him its mandated by law that manufacturers equip their car with DRL, not that they be on. he continued to lie to me so i called lexus corp and reported him.

actually for what happened with the original author, he should be on the phone immediately with lexus corp. i'm not a cry baby, but corp takes this type of stuff VERY seriously. lots of lexus dealerships across the country are just owned by some bigger dealership near by (a ford chevy, some big name) so the people working at these locations aren't exactly what lexus has in mind as far as customer service goes. 1k and 4days is insane

im realy angry, thanks for informing me that its mandated by law to have them instaled, but not on.

im gona talk to the manager at this dealership soon, and set up an appointment.

i want DRL's off cause i think it looks dumb. i know the added safety benefits of it but i normaly turn my lights on regardless. some times i like to have my car on at night and not be seen for some certain reasons

Well, if it's so against the law, why does Chevy equip their trucks with a dash button to turn DRL's off then?

I don't know why you would want to disable them (???), but keep in mind that you might have to report that to your insurance company. Here is why: a friend of mind "disabled" DRL on his car, then got into a head-on collision on a 2-lane road. Both his insurance and the other guy's insurance put him at fault after they found out that his DRL was disconnected!!! I believe insurance companies give drivers a little discount for DRL because it's a safety feature.

My local Chevy dealer told me it was because of hunters. Hunters like to drive through the woods scouting out where they are going to hunt. The DRLs would scare the hunted animals away. Chevy dealers had so many hunters/truck customers bring their trucks back to have the DRLs disconnected, Chevy just went ahead and added the disable switch.

i think people are confusing "against the law" with "liability" issues. i'm pretty sure there is no law in the us requiring drl's on lexus vehicles.

maybe it is against lexus rules and/or their agreement with insurance cos.
