I love the built in NAV. Compared to a Tom Tom, or whatnot, it's located in a good place on the dash (not on the windshield, where I would find it distracting) has a larger screen than the store bought ones, don't have to worry about cables (or the battery running down) and allows you to use the stereo and Bluetooth using the touch screen. Yes, it costs a whole lot more being built in by the factory, but it looks good, is convenient, and I happen to like it.
Sigh--bumped again!
Can't some mod just lock down this never-ending pointless debate?
seems like the only person who keeps bringing up this pointless debate is Kurtz.
Might wanna work on your reading there... I'm not the one who bumped it. My last post in the thread prior to someone else doing so was over a year ago.
though I do correct any misinformation that shows up once someone else bumps the thread as is often the case
I have the 2010 Navi version. I cant speak of the prior versions but I really like it. I had a garmin nuvi 760 to suppliment my prior mercedes comand deficiencies and I have no complaints about the lexus nav functionality. The nav system is around 2400. I dont think you can get it ala carte which is why its roughly 4000 paired with the other stuff such as back up cam, hid, heated and ventilated seats and 18in with summer tires. Not a bad price in my opinion. WORTH IT!

The backup camera is part of the nav system, I dunno why people keep thinking it's separate. And you can certainly get nav by itself as an option (which comes with the camera, but has nothing to do whatsoever with wheels or seats).
The nav option is $2465 MSRP ($2065 invoice). The only "package" that has anything to do with nav is the Nav+Mark Levinson one, which is $3905 MSRP.
The 2010 nav is certainly worlds better than the 06-09 one, it finally catches up to the features Garmin (and even other OEMs like Infiniti) offered 3 or 4 years ago. It's still missing a few advantages from a current-gen Garmin, but it's not nearly as bad, feature wise, as it used to be. Sadly it still costs 10-15 times more though. Even compared to other car OEMs it's still overpriced, and compared to aftermarket units it remains insanely overpriced.
The reality on the high volume Lexus new/used car lots of this area is that Nav is good for resale value and demand, despite the pros and cons of the system itself. Most of the IS250/IS350's that sell quickly are equiped with Nav.
When I searched for a CPO IS350, my selections only centered on low mileage cars with Nav. These are Lexus cars, so the nickle and diming kind of customer looks elsewhere (like the Toyota lot). Lexus buyers tend to favor well-equipped cars.

Well i wasnt sure but when i try to build an is on the lexus website for my zipcode , there was no option for me to deslect the wheels and so forth. it was all one package deal, if i selected nav, then it added all the options i mentioned. I guess i would have to special order through the dealer?
i also had the pleasure of testdriving a g37 coupe yesterday. I had to smile at the nav system because i really didnt see what the hype was over the infiniti nav system, The resolution is nothing compared to what is in my is250 and after playing with it for the better part of an hour, The 3d view is the only thing I found missing from my 250. Clue me in, why r people so fond of the infiniti?

Lexus tends to build just a couple of sets of options for each region... so for region X they might only make 350s with, say, packages A, C, and G... or packages A,B, and D...so when you shop 350s in your zip code and want package E you won't find any... If you want anything else you have to special order or get your car from a different region. Both are always possible though. I ignored the zip code thing and just told my dealer what I actually wanted on the car and that's what I got ordered.

Because prior to 2010 there were about a dozen nav features the Lexus system didn't offer that the Infiniti one had had since at least 07... including pretty major ones like realtime traffic, speaking street names, etc). Plus even today it costs hundreds less for the option, and offers things lexus doesn't (saving music to the hard drive for example).
Here in Finland you can only get the nav system (including Mark Levinson nd stuff) for approximately 5000 euros (which is even more in dollars), so that was the reason why I did not get the system, and I have regretted my choice numerous times since (and I've only had my car for little over a year). I've seen the system working in a couple of other cars that I've been given as a substitute car during maintenance, and I want that system on my car as well. Currently I have a TomTom Navigator on a dash mount between the console and the glove compartment, and it simply isn't the same thing.

Well the infiniti's nav option is $2150 which is cheaper, The ripping cd's to the hardrive would be a very useless feature for me, I seldom use OEM music cds. The $300 dollar difference in prices wouldnt change my mind on buying ANY car and if u are determined, I am pretty sure you can get most dealers to eat the $300 easily. Thanks for the info though.
